A new era begins at Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus | News

Hilton unveils the redesigned Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus, marking a bold step forward for Istanbul’s most iconic hotel overlooking the Bosphorus. As the longest-running Hilton hotel outside America, the hotel’s transformation reflects how Hilton is redefining hospitality for today’s traveler and building on seven decades of history as Istanbul’s original international host.

The hotel reintroduces itself with an updated experience that combines mid-century heritage with contemporary design, modern technology, premier event spaces and fine dining in one of the world’s most culturally rich and dynamic cities.

Since its opening in 1955, the property has become a symbol of modern hospitality and international glamor in Türkiye. It played a decisive role in shaping Istanbul’s social life – organizing early large-scale weddings and international events, and introducing traditions that spread across the city, including Istanbul’s first happy hour. Today it is still an important social center in the city, hosting social and business meetings all year round.

The property offers a renewed expression of the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand, with a nod to the glamorous era of 1950s travel. The transformation includes all 475 rooms and suites, introduces a new collection of dining and social venues and includes more than 4,000 square feet of event space. This continues the hotel’s long history as a destination for celebration, culture and connection for events of all sizes. The hotel’s iconic outdoor pool – shaped after the foot of Hilton founder Conrad Hilton, to represent Hilton’s growing footprint outside the Americas – remains a central feature, with further enhancements including the spa, indoor pool and fitness facilities to be unveiled later this summer.

“Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus is at the heart of Conrad Hilton’s vision to spread the light and warmth of hospitality around the world. For more than 70 years, it has been an integral part of Istanbul – a truly unique city that bridges East and West and brings people together. As the hotel enters its next chapter, we are proud that it has been thoughtfully redesigned for the future, while still remaining a powerful symbol of Hilton’s long-standing commitment to Türkiye,” said Simon Vincent CBE, president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Hilton.

“Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus is one of our most iconic hotels that ties its roots to Conrad Hilton. It has long been one of the defining expressions of the Hilton story, a place where the energy of the city comes alive through celebrations, shared connections and memorable stays,” said Leonard Gooz, Global Brand Leader, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “With this transformation, we have built on that foundation by bringing together a rich heritage, modern design and dynamic social experiences that will continue to shape the way guests and locals experience Istanbul for years to come.”

Originally designed by Chicago-based, globally renowned architectural firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill in collaboration with Turkish architect Sedad Hakki Eldem, Istanbul-based design studio Autoban has reimagined the hotel’s 1950s legacy for a new generation, combining modernist influences with references to Turkish craft, art and poetry.

Authentic architectural elements designed by Sedad Hakki Eldem remain central to the property’s identity, including the entrance canopy reminiscent of a magic carpet, the outdoor pool that remains the largest hotel pool in Istanbul, as well as the original handmade Çintemani tiles that adorn the hotel’s walls.

Heritage details are carefully reinterpreted throughout the property – from installations featuring the original 1955 logo to restored traditional Turkish motifs in the lobby symbolizing abundance and protection. Soft curves inspired by Istanbul’s seven hills, alongside architectural nods to the city’s domes, are woven into surfaces, shaping the flow and character of the public spaces.

This sense of place continues in the rooms and suites, where the interiors reflect the colors of the Bosphorus and Istanbul’s sunrise. Natural materials such as marble, wood, metal and leather create warm, inviting spaces, with large windows, private balconies and terraces that frame views of the city skyline, the Bosphorus and the hotel’s extensive gardens.

Statement suites
Four characteristic suites each reflect a separate chapter in the hotel’s history. Located under the building’s signature dome, the Imperial Suite nods to the legacy of Cloud 9 – Istanbul’s first nightclub, originally located in the hotel – with details including a private cinema room that celebrates the hotel’s connection to the silver screen, having played host to many Hollywood stars over the years.

The Bosphorus Suite draws on the serene tones of the strait below, while the Presidential Suite is characterized by expansive views of the Bosphorus. The Ambassador Suite pays tribute to the world leaders and cultural figures who have remained there over the decades.

A culinary revival
Food and drink are at the heart of the hotel’s reinvention, restoring its role as one of Istanbul’s most vibrant meeting places, where conversation, culture and taste collide all day long. That spirit is rooted in a long tradition of Turkish hospitality: after experiencing the local custom of welcoming guests with coffee and liqueur, Conrad Hilton here introduced the ritual of a ‘welcome coffee’ – a gesture of hospitality that later became a hallmark of Hilton hotels around the world.

The culinary offering is led by Malva, the hotel’s signature fine dining restaurant, where Turkey’s culinary heritage is brought into the modern age. Overlooked regional recipes are reinterpreted using modern techniques and seasonal ingredients, celebrating the flavors that have shaped the country’s identity.

Sazzou offers an intimate late-night retreat where curated vinyl sets, carefully selected live jazz sessions and masterful mixology come together in perfect rhythm, echoing the legacy of the musicians who once performed and stayed at the hotel.

At the center of the hotel is Lalou – which means ‘nice chat’ – a sophisticated lobby brasserie and terrace designed for connection. Inspired by the glamor of the hotel’s early decades, the space features jewelry-like finishes that subtly reference a sapphire necklace worn by Sophia Loren during a visit, alongside pastries, light plates and craft cocktails that invite guests to pause, linger and become part of the scene.

Arlo presents a modern dining destination inspired by the seven hills of Istanbul, where the city’s layered culinary heritage is enriched by the coastal flavors of Türkiye, Greece and Italy, and guided by a conscious commitment to sustainability.

Dragon has long been a fixture in Istanbul’s food scene, serving authentic Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine, with views of the Bosphorus from the garden in summer and a cozy indoor setting in winter.

Around the swimming pool, Bosolei exudes the ease and glamor of the French Riviera. Sun-drenched days unfold around wood-fired flavors, curated wines and signature cocktails, with private cabanas offering an elevated poolside escape.

Where Istanbul’s most iconic celebrations unfold
With more than 4,000 square meters of event space – including the Ambassador Ballroom and the divisible Connie Ballroom – and a total capacity of up to 2,500 guests, the hotel remains one of Istanbul’s premier destinations for important events. Spaces include outdoor garden locations that can accommodate up to 500 people, and 17 meeting rooms; making the hotel the perfect place for both social and business meetings.

An oasis in the center of Istanbul
Set within extensive gardens in the Harbiye district, the hotel offers a sense of sanctuary amid the vibrant energy of the city. It is a stone’s throw from Beyoğlu, one of Istanbul’s cultural and social centers, and Nişantaşı, a lively district known for its boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Guests staying at the hotel can enjoy the benefits of Hilton Honors, Hilton’s award-winning loyalty program. Members who book directly through Hilton’s preferred channels can earn points and enjoy immediate benefits, including flexible payment options with points and cash, exclusive member discounts and free standard Wi-Fi.
