The sex scandal of disgraced Louisiana Mayor Misty Roberts

A day before Roberts submitted her resignation, the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office requested that the Louisiana State Police Special Victims’ Unit open an investigation following a complaint accusing the then-mayor of sexual relations with a minor.
LSP authorities spoke to two youths, one of whom was the alleged victim.
“Both juveniles confirmed that Roberts had sexual intercourse with one minor victim while serving as mayor,” it said added.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant from Beauregard Parish’s 36th Judicial District Court, although Roberts turned himself in on August 1, 2024. She was charged with third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
According to local news sources, Roberts was released on $75,000 bail just over an hour after she was booked.
Adam Johnson, Roberts’ attorney, said in a statement“My client learned of a warrant late last night, despite not having been contacted to be interviewed before investigators obtained the warrant. My client maintains her innocence and, as it stands, she is in fact innocent. She has not been charged with a crime and/or convicted of any crime. And we trust that the public will respect her constitutional presumption of innocence, which is fundamental to our justice system.”
“Misty and her family are very grateful for the support they have received from their friends and neighbors, and we look forward to putting this unfortunate situation behind them,” he continued.
The initial charge was dismissed and led to a mistrial, according to the American press. Roberts was subsequently arraigned again and indicted on charges of carnal knowledge of juvenile and indecent conduct with a juvenile before trial.
