VERDURA RESORT IS REGISTERED SIR ROCCO FORTE CAPTAIN’S TROPHY | News

Verdura Resort will host the first Sir Rocco Forte Captain’s Trophy from September 10 to 13, introducing an exclusive new event that brings together world-class golf, culture and conversation at one of Europe’s premier golf destinations.

The event is led by Colin Montgomerie, one of the most talented players in history. The eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner and Ryder Cup legend will host a special driving range exhibition, giving guests an insight into the techniques and approaches that shaped one of the game’s most illustrious careers.

The four-day event, spread across the Sicilian resort’s two championship courses, will include a 36-hole Stableford tournament, complemented by a program of lectures, dinners and guest sessions on a range of topics including golf, economics and finance.

The tournament will be directed by Donato Di Ponziano, golf development supervisor for Rocco Forte Hotels, with a format that balances competition with a welcoming and entertaining environment.

The competition is open to amateur golfers registered with their respective federations and is played over two rounds, one on the East Links course and one on the West Shore course. Players will compete in three handicap categories, with prizes awarded for both net and gross performance.

Sir Rocco Forte said: “Golf has always been about camaraderie, competition and the joy of a great environment. At the Verdura Resort, the Captain’s Trophy celebrates all three.”

Set against the backdrop of Sicily’s southern coastline, Verdura Resort continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s most complete golf destinations. Recognized as one of the top 100 golf resorts in the world by 2026, the venue combines championship golf with a wider offering spanning hospitality, wellbeing and sport.

Donato Di Ponziano said: “The Sir Rocco Forte Captain’s Trophy represents a new chapter for golf at Verdura. It brings together competition, culture and conversation in a way that reflects both the spirit of the game and the wider experience we offer at Verdura Resort.

“Welcoming a player of Colin Montgomerie’s stature adds real depth to the event, and we look forward to hosting guests for what will be a distinctive and memorable few days in Sicily.”

Food for the event will be overseen by Fulvio Pierangelini, Creative Director of Food for Rocco Forte Hotels, with menus focused on seasonal ingredients and his renowned interpretation of Italian cuisine.

When not on the course, guests have access to Verdura’s wider facilities, including the practice areas, private coastline and the 4,000 m² Irene Forte Spa.
