FAIRMONT HOTELS & RESORTS debuts in North West England with FAIRMONT CHESHIRE, THE MERE | News

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the global luxury brand and part of the world’s leading hospitality group Accor, today announced that bookings are now live, ahead of the coveted opening on July 10, 2026. Fairmont’s newest property – Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere – will be the brand’s fourth hotel in Britain, joining The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel, Fairmont Windsor Park and Fairmont St Andrews.
Nestled within 157 acres of the picturesque Cheshire countryside, with breathtaking views over The Mere Lake, this exquisite Grade II listed address enters a new chapter, bringing elevated luxury to the region. A celebrated country estate in full swing, Fairmont Cheshire is made for spirited gatherings with a legacy of ‘life well played’. Guests can book a variety of experiences across all elements of the iconic resort, including: luxurious overnight stays in one of 116 beautifully appointed bedrooms, including 23 spacious suites; distinctive dining with Gordon Ramsay at The Mere; afternoon tea and champagne at The Orangery; classic British dishes and vibrant Indian dishes in The Club Lounge; a nutritious smoothie after the treatment in the Spa Bar; elevated wellness experiences at Fairmont Spa; and a round of golf on the 18-hole championship course. Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere perfectly combines true country style with a touch of classic elegance in the heart of Cheshire.
The long-awaited transformation of this historic property into Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, represents the most significant evolution to date. From its mention in the Domesday Book of 1086, through its time as a leisure estate and private club, and now returning to its roots as a hotel, The Mere has always been a place steeped in history. This transformation from Fairmont Hotels & Resorts does more than elevate The Mere to a standalone luxury hotel; it carefully builds on its existing legacy as a much-loved, lived-in estate, deeply rooted in local loyalty and a storied past. The result is a contemporary rural address that truly embodies the legacy of shared celebrations and cherished moments.
“Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere offers a rural retreat designed for break and recovery in beautifully appointed surroundings. Guests can enjoy pure tranquility in the soothing lake-inspired spa, enjoy festive moments in the sophisticated Club Lounge after a round of golf, and experience world-class British and international cuisine at Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, all in a quintessentially British rural setting. At Fairmont we love to ‘Make Special Happen’, and we can’t wait to bring this festive sentiment to Cheshire,” said Claudia Kozma Kaplan, Chief Brand Officer, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
Following a £35 million acquisition and an additional £90 million spend on the extensive transformation by Select Group, the property will deliver Fairmont’s world-renowned genuine hospitality and genuine service to the region for the first time. Poised to become a vibrant social epicentre, the opening of Fairmont Cheshire marks a major new addition to the North West of England’s luxury travel and lifestyle landscape.
“Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere represents a decisive milestone for Select Group. It is the realization of a vision we committed to when we first acquired this exceptional property. Our ambition from the outset was to create something that would set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the North West of England, and the partnership with Fairmont, one of the world’s most iconic luxury hotel brands, has enabled us to do just that,” said Israr Liaqat, Group Chief Executive Officer of Select Group.
The hotel is perfectly prepared for parties of all sizes and offers optimal spaces for large occasions and events. The Grand Ballroom offers endless possibilities for meetings of all sizes, from conferences and networking to memorable occasions. This impressive 1,000 square meter ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. It seamlessly blends indoors with outdoors and responds to the character of the estate by combining classic details with a refined contemporary sensibility and expansive views over parks and greenways. In addition, four special boardrooms overlooking the landscape provide perfect locations for meetings or private dinners. Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, is ideal for weddings of all levels and ceremonies. It offers the unique ability to maintain intimacy alongside an unparalleled level of service. Whether intimate gatherings or multi-day celebrations and cultural weddings spanning multiple ceremonies and guest tours, the property offers warmth and an attentive atmosphere to make every event a special occasion.
“Fairmont Cheshire The Mere is a place defined by its surroundings: the lake, the fairways and the sense of space around it, all of which create a natural sense of ease and connection,” said Gary Johnson, General Manager, Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere. “We look forward to welcoming guests to this new chapter of the estate, whether they come for dining, golf or wellness, and to seeing the hotel once again become a place for great company, meaningful occasions and a life well lived.”
