The beautiful game at sea: research shows that there is a desire to watch the World Cup | News

A new survey has revealed that a third (33%) of cruisers are attracted to the prospect of watching the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup during a holiday at sea.
More than 400 customers were interviewed for the research by the online specialist cruise agency seascanner.co.uk.
When asked what makes watching this beautiful match at sea most attractive, 33% answer ‘big screen and outdoor viewing’, while the same number choose ‘socializing with other fans’. 19% said visiting multiple destinations during the promotion was a key factor.
Cruise lines such as Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Holland America Line will be showing onboard competitions this summer.
Tony Andrews, managing director of seascanner.co.uk, said: “Whether you’re cheering on your team from a giant outdoor screen, celebrating goals with other fans or following the action as you travel between destinations, cruises provide a brilliant atmosphere for supporters, with world-class amenities accompanying every kick. For football fans it’s the ultimate way to sail through the tournament, and for cruise lines it’s a chance to score.
“While many guests enjoy the atmosphere of live sports on board, cruises also provide the perfect escape for travelers looking to completely unwind, with spas, specialty dining, entertainment and destination experiences ensuring there is something for everyone during the tournament.”
The tournament will be held in the US, Mexico and Canada and starts on June 11. It will be the largest World Cup in history, with 48 teams and 104 matches.
