Brahman Hills breaks ground for one of Africa’s most ambitious wellbeing developments | News

Ground has officially been broken on the expansion of the Healing Earth™ Transformative Wellness Spa at Brahman Hills, bringing to life a sanctuary where wellness is not confined to a treatment room, but intertwined with the landscape around it.
When completed, this will be Africa’s first fully integrated spa and garden wellness destination of its kind. Furthermore, the expansion will see this internationally renowned spa expand into Serenity Garden, Brahman Hills’ record-breaking 22-hectare labyrinth. Guests can move freely between treatment rooms, thermal rituals, reflective walkways and tranquil garden rooms, with the labyrinth at the heart of the journey.
This is not a cosmetic upgrade. It is a large-scale, multi-million dollar investment that will shift the spa from standalone treatments to an immersive, deeply restorative experience unlike anything currently offered in Africa or the Indian Ocean Islands. It is also an authentic expression of what both Brahman Hills and Healing Earth™ have always stood for in nature and holistic wellness.
“We have brought together the best international minds in wellbeing, architecture and sustainability science,” says Iain Buchan, founder of Brahman Hills. “We don’t build for volume; we create legacy, on a grand scale and absolutely uncompromising in our pursuit of excellence.”
He adds that the development is rooted in regenerative Blue Zone principles, where wellness is built into the way people move, rest, connect and spend time in nature. At Brahman Hills these principles will not come to life in theory, but in the landscape itself; in the paths that are walked, the silence found and the moments that linger long after guests have returned home.
Once completed, the record-breaking Serenity Garden will also include expansive garden rooms, water features, an underground orchid house, an olive garden, a museum of African art and more than three miles of contemplative walking trails.
The Healing Earth™ Transformative Wellness Spa is already among the most awarded and internationally acclaimed spas in the world, with titles including Spa of the Year at the Destination Deluxe Awards 2025, in addition to accolades from the World Luxury Spa Awards, Lux Global Spa Awards and the Les Nouvelles Esthetiques (LNE) Spa Awards for Best Boutique Hotel Spa (Brahman Hills). The latest expansion takes that benchmark even further to a higher level.
“I have spent decades building wellness environments where people don’t just live or just exist, but truly heal, thrive, become, and return to themselves,” says Elisabeth Brandt, Founder and CEO of Healing Earth™ Global. “For me, wellness is not a trend. It is a journey back to your truth, your essence, your purpose. This world-class wellness development is not just an extension. It is a defining legacy, rooted in the earth and honoring both people and the planet.”
The spa will be closed for construction from June 1 to August 31, 2026, with a planned reopening by the end of 2026.
