AER LINGUS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH IRISH BOXING SICON KATIE TAYLOR | News

Aer Lingus today announces Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor as its new brand ambassador, following the airline’s recent celebration of its 90th anniversary. The partnership brings together two Irish icons with a shared spirit and global ambitions, each proudly flying the Irish flag on the world stage.

Katie will continue to raise the flag in September when she lines up for a big homecoming fight in Croke Park, Dublin, on September 5, and Aer Lingus will proudly fly the Bray boxer home for this highly anticipated fight.

For Aer Lingus, the partnership basis is self-evident. Since 1936, when the airline first took off from Baldonnel with one aircraft, one route and five passengers, it has been Ireland’s connection to the world – a beacon for the country and a call home to millions of people.

Nine decades later, the airline carries passengers on more than 100 routes from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Ireland West Airport to Europe, the United Kingdom and North America. The airline will fly 24 direct routes from Ireland to North America in 2026, including new routes to Raleigh-Durham and Pittsburgh.

Aer Lingus has played a key role in Katie Taylor’s life since her move to the US almost a decade ago. Highlights of the Bray boxer’s career include helping to secure the women’s boxing place at the 2012 London Olympics, where she took gold for Ireland that summer. She dominated amateur boxing for more than a decade: five World Championship titles, six European titles and ten Irish national titles. As a professional, she has achieved one of the rarest distinctions in boxing: undisputed two-weight world champion, with lightweight and super lightweight titles. Her record-breaking fights have transformed the global viewership of women’s boxing.

Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer, Aer Lingus, said: “We are extremely proud to be working with Katie Taylor. Katie is the epitome of faith and determination. She has changed the sport of boxing worldwide and built an audience of millions for women’s boxing that simply did not exist before her. That is not just a remarkable sporting career – that is an inspiration to us all that change and progress is possible. That spirit is what I recognize in Aer Lingus. It is the spirit that inspires us. put a small plane on the air in 1936 runway in Baldonnel with five passengers and a belief that Irish aviation could be something – and we have been proudly flying Ireland to the world and bringing people home for 90 years ever since.”

Also speaking about the announcement, Katie Taylor added: “Aer Lingus has been an important part of my life, but especially since I moved to the US. Their famous shamrock has been a true symbol of home for me, and my family and friends have been able to visit me regularly thanks to this airline. This is an extremely important announcement for me, and to partner with such an iconic brand that represents all things home is something truly special to me.”

The partnership will see Aer Lingus support Katie on her journey and celebrate the impact she has had on Irish sport and the global diaspora she has inspired along the way.
