WTTC Announces Global Priorities Adopted by Executive Committee to Drive Growth | News


The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has defined eight strategic priorities, now formally adopted by the Executive Committee, to guide the future of the global private travel and tourism sector. These priorities reflect the needs and perspectives of the global private sector, strengthening WTTC’s commitment to unlocking growth, maximizing the sector’s potential to guide investment decisions and driving meaningful transformations across the sector.

The priorities are the result of an extensive consultation process spanning several months, including more than 200 interviews with CEOs and industry leaders. The outcomes, presented at WTTC’s latest Executive Committee in Egypt, now form the basis of a renewed strategic agenda aimed at addressing the sector’s most pressing challenges while enabling long-term sustainable and resilient growth.

Through this process, WTTC has identified key structural and emerging issues, including complex and fragmented traveler journeys, challenging visa processes and digital identity systems, limited connectivity and disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions, pandemics and climate-related events. Additional challenges include uneven digital transformation and AI adoption, labor shortages, investment restrictions, environmental pressures and growing tensions between travelers and local communities.

In response, WTTC has defined eight strategic priorities that will underpin future work:

1. Enabling safe and seamless travel through digital standards and biometrics

2. Strengthening destination management and tackling overcrowding (unattended travel)

3. Promoting climate and environmental sustainability initiatives

4. Leverage emerging technologies, including AI and robotics

5. Improving crisis preparedness, management and recovery

6. Expanding global connectivity and developing new travel corridors

7. Support workforce development, talent retention and mobility

8. Promote policies that stimulate investment and new growth opportunities

These strategic priorities are embedded in a broader working strategy built around a clear vision of achieving long-term sustainable growth for global travel and tourism.

Complementing these priorities, WTTC has also identified a set of strategic enablers that will support results and impact: economic, social and environmental research and data insights, global convening power, policy and advocacy opportunities, partnerships and coalition-building efforts, global campaigns and initiatives, as well as a strong digital agenda. Together, these factors place WTTC in a unique position to translate strategy into action on a global scale.

WTTC members and the destination network form the core of our organization and WTTC strongly believes in the importance of public-private partnerships. The organization works closely with governments, international organizations and industry stakeholders to co-create solutions, drive policy alignment and drive meaningful progress for the sector worldwide. SMEs also play an important role, and WTTC’s ‘Together in Travel initiative’ currently involves over 4,000 SMEs working with WTTC.

WTTC also highlighted the critical role of its members in shaping this agenda, noting that their insights and leadership have been instrumental in defining both the challenges and opportunities ahead. The organization continues to put its members at the center of its work and ensures that their priorities are reflected in its global advocacy and initiatives. Advocacy is central to the organization, while sharing best practice remains a cornerstone of WTTC’s work, helping governments unlock their potential, drive investment and create jobs.

With this new operating strategy, WTTC is strengthening its role as a global private sector voice in travel and tourism, committed to driving innovation, strengthening partnerships and supporting its members to deliver long-term, sustainable growth for the sector worldwide.
