The world’s most stunning hidden natural gems revealed by travel experts | News

As travelers increasingly ditch busy tourist hotspots for quieter, more authentic experiences, new research has revealed the world’s most spectacular hidden natural gems.
This shift reflects a growing need for off-the-beaten-path travel. Recent research into travel trends has revealed that almost three in five (58%) of Brits now prioritize lesser-known destinations over traditional tourist hotspots. With this in mind, global Google searches for ‘hidden gem travel’ have increased by 5,095% in the past year, reflecting the growing need for off-the-beaten-path experiences.
Nearly three in ten (28%) travelers say sustainability influences their travel plans, with many actively seeking destinations that offer a closer connection to nature and the local environment.
Against this backdrop, luxury travel specialists Bailey Robinson analyzed natural attractions around the world to discover the destinations that best combine exceptional natural beauty with a real sense of discovery.
From remote lagoons in the Philippines and Thailand to crystal-clear mountain lakes in Canada and hidden coves along the British coastline, the research evaluated destinations using visitor ratings, scenic beauty metrics and a bespoke ‘Hidden Nature Gem Score’, designed to identify locations that remain relatively undiscovered despite their remarkable appeal.
The findings highlight a growing travel movement away from bucket list landmarks and towards meaningful experiences in lesser-known corners of the world, as travelers seek destinations that feel more authentic, less crowded and more connected to nature.
Tied for first place are Hidden Lagoon in Coron, Philippines, and Garibaldi Lake in British Columbia, Canada, both with a Hidden Nature Gem Score of 96 out of 100.
Although thousands of miles apart, both destinations share the qualities that modern travelers are increasingly looking for: spectacular scenery, a sense of exclusivity and an experience that feels truly off the beaten track.
Nestled among the dramatic limestone islands of Coron, Hidden Lagoon scored a perfect 100 for its hidden appeal, while Garibaldi Lake impressed with its striking natural beauty and near-perfect hidden score.
Morinj Beach in Montenegro secured third place with a score of 94.9, while Koh Hong Lagoon in Thailand (92.0) and Kalanggaman Island Beach in the Philippines (90.9) rounded out the top five.

Notably, Britain features three times in the global top 10, with Cornwall’s Kynance Cove and Pedn Vounder Beach, alongside Steephill Cove on the Isle of Wight, proving that hidden natural beauty can be found much closer to home.
The rankings highlight a growing shift in travelers’ priorities, with many increasingly seeking quieter destinations that offer authentic experiences away from the crowded tourist attractions.
Stephanie Carthy, personal travel advisor at Bailey Robinson, said: “For years, travelers have been encouraged to tick off the world’s most famous sights, but we’re increasingly seeing a shift from ‘must-see’ destinations to places that feel more personal and undiscovered.
“What sets these destinations apart isn’t just their beauty. It’s the sense of discovery they offer. In an age when every corner of the world feels documented on social media, travelers are placing greater value on experiences that feel unique, authentic and truly surprising.
“The easiest way to find hidden gems is to stop following the crowd. Travelers tend to focus on the main attractions, but some of the most special places are just off the main tourist route.
“We recommend using well-known destinations as a starting point rather than an end destination. Explore the surrounding region, look for local recommendations and don’t be afraid to choose the lesser-known alternative. In our experience, these are often the places travelers remember most long after they have returned home.”
The findings reflect broader travel trends, as more travelers seek alternatives to busy hotspots in favor of lesser-known locations that offer greater tranquility, exclusivity and opportunities for meaningful connection with the natural world.
The top destinations span five continents, demonstrating that remarkable hidden landscapes can be found all over the world, from secluded lagoons and pristine beaches to mountain lakes and rugged coastal coves.
