To help identify the destinations best suited to this growing trend, luxury travel advisors Bailey Robinson analyzed some of the world’s most sought-after locations for remote professionals.
The study assessed destinations based on factors such as visa flexibility, length of stay, income requirements, tax considerations, internet connectivity and overall lifestyle attractiveness to determine where digital nomads can best balance their career ambitions with quality of life.
As more workers choose to trade traditional office life for overseas destinations that offer sun, culture and freedom, countries are increasingly competing to attract remote professionals through special visa programs for digital nomads.
The findings provide insight into the legal, practical and lifestyle considerations shaping the next generation of international remote work.
According to the analysis, Spain claimed the top spot as the top destination for digital nomads, with an overall score of 88 out of 100. In addition to offering visas for up to 60 months, the country also boasts average internet speeds of 200 Mbps and a lifestyle score of 9.5 out of 10. From Michelin-starred restaurants and vibrant cultural scenes to Mediterranean coastlines and year-round sunshine, Spain offers remote professionals an enviable mix of productivity and quality of life.
Portugal followed closely with a score of 85. Known for its picturesque coastline, sophisticated cities and relaxed way of life, the country has become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations for remote workers.
Croatia ranks third overall with a score of 82 out of 100. In addition to its special visa program for digital nomads, the country offers access to beautiful Adriatic coasts, historic architecture and island-hopping opportunities that make it particularly attractive for those looking to combine work with exploration.
Georgia took fourth place with a score of 81 out of 100 and stood out for its accessible visa requirements. The country has attracted growing interest from international professionals thanks to its dramatic mountain scenery, rich cultural heritage and rapidly evolving cities for remote workers looking for a destination that feels both authentic and undiscovered.
The top five was rounded out by Costa Rica, which scored a total score of 80 and performed particularly strongly in the area of lifestyle. Known for its biodiversity, wellness-oriented culture and outdoor lifestyle, the country offers remote workers the chance to enjoy everything from rainforest adventures to world-class beaches.
