LATEST TOURISM DATA SHOWS PALMA’S SUCCESSFUL SEASONAL STRATEGY | News

Palma de Mallorca continues to strengthen its position as a leading year-round city break destination, with the latest tourism data highlighting the success of its long-term de-seasonal strategy, driven by a rich and evolving cultural offering. The capital of the Balearic Islands is increasingly positioning itself as a leading cosmopolitan city break on the Mediterranean, attracting culturally minded travelers outside the traditional summer season.
New figures show a clear shift in visitor behaviour, with significant growth recorded outside the traditional summer months. In the early shoulder season, overnight stays by British visitors in Palma increased year on year by 13.64% in April 2025 and 11.48% in May 2025, showing the destination was successfully attracting visitors earlier this year.
This upward trend continues into the latter part of the calendar, with overnight stays by British visitors increasing year on year by 6.49% in September, 15.34% in October and 9.9% in November 2025. The continued growth in both the early and late months of the shoulder season reflects a wider shift in how and when travelers choose to experience Palma.
Comparing this latest data with previous years further reinforces the power of Palma’s long-term de-seasonal strategy. Before the 2025 increases, the destination had already shown significant growth between 2023 and 2024, with overnight stays from British travelers increasing by 44.11% in March, 15.55% in April and 13.87% in May, alongside strong increases of 19.94% in September and 12.82% in October. This earlier momentum provides important context for the latest 2025 numbers, which show that current growth is not an isolated trend, but part of an ongoing, multi-year evolution toward off-peak visitation.
At the heart of this shift is Palma’s world-class cultural offering, which continues to expand and diversify. The city’s strong cultural and creative identity is supported by an increasingly dynamic calendar of events, exhibitions and experiences that appeal to culturally motivated travelers seeking authenticity outside the summer season. From internationally recognized art fairs to emerging initiatives such as Mallorca Photofest, in addition to a thriving gastronomy scene and a calendar of cultural programming that stretches all year round, Palma offers compelling reasons to visit at any time of year.
Pedro Homar, Managing Director of the Palma Tourism Foundation, commented:
“Palma has a strong cultural and creative identity that naturally lends itself to year-round travel. By continuing to invest in our cultural offering and expanding our events calendar, we can attract visitors beyond the summer months and strengthen Palma’s position as a destination for culture, creativity and authentic experiences all year round. Deseasonalisation is essential, not only to support the sustainable growth of tourism, but to ensure that both residents and the local sector benefit from a more balanced distribution of visitors throughout the year.”
The continued success of Palma’s deseasonalization strategy underlines the importance of cultural tourism as an engine of sustainable growth. By extending the tourist season, the destination reduces pressure on peak months while ensuring the economic benefits of tourism are spread more evenly throughout the year, supporting local businesses and the wider community.
As Palma builds on this momentum, its commitment to culture, creativity and all-season appeal firmly positions the city as one of Europe’s most progressive and sustainable urban destinations.
