Conflict in the Middle East: Mallorca emerges as a reliable holiday destination | News

Just before the start of the summer travel season, Eurowings is sending a clear message to all travelers: despite the tense geopolitical situation in the Middle East, the 2026 summer flight schedule is safe. Fuel supplies for Germany’s largest holiday airline are guaranteed at all European bases. This ensures the conditions for stable flight operations during the busy summer travel months.

“In uncertain times, travelers value reliability more than ever. As part of the Lufthansa Group, Eurowings has secured fuel supplies for the summer season. We will maintain stable flight operations, giving our guests the confidence to plan their summer holidays with peace of mind,” said Max Kownatzki, CEO of Eurowings.

The fact that uncertainty about oil and kerosene supplies is gradually decreasing has major consequences for the current summer season, which was previously characterized by reservations in booking. Take Mallorca for example: after a significant drop in bookings of more than 20 percent at one point, Eurowings is now seeing a noticeable increase in demand. Bookings for Mallorca are now nine percent higher than in the already strong period last year. The island is clearly seen as a reliable getaway by many holidaymakers, further fueling demand, which has been strong for years. Numerous tourists who would otherwise travel to destinations in the Middle East are currently choosing Mallorca.

Eurowings operates its main international hub in Palma de Mallorca, connecting Europe’s most popular sunny island with 26 airports and approximately 400 flights per week. The popular ‘Mallorca Shuttle’ (for example up to eleven times a day from Düsseldorf) serves as a reliable barometer within the industry for how popular the island is, especially among German holidaymakers.

Classic Mediterranean holiday destinations are more popular than ever

With a route network covering more than 150 destinations in 40 countries, Eurowings will once again offer an extensive range of options for holidaymakers and leisure travelers in the summer of 2026. New direct connections and additional flights on popular routes will bring European cities and beaches even closer. For the first time, travelers can fly directly from Düsseldorf to the European capitals of Madrid and Tallinn with Europe’s low-cost airline. Lisbon, London and Sarajevo can now be reached from Berlin via the ‘Capital Express’. In addition, Germany’s largest holiday airline will fly more often to popular holiday destinations such as Alicante, Cagliari, Faro, Málaga, Naples, Nice and Olbia in the summer of 2026. Eurowings has expanded its service to Portugal and now flies more than 90 times a week to Lisbon, Faro and Porto.
