Minor Hotels strengthens presence in Austria | News

Minor Hotels, a global leader in hospitality with more than 640 hotels in operation and development in 66 countries, announces the signing of NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa, a landmark hotel in the heart of Innsbruck, one of Austria’s premier destinations for both leisure and business travel.

Built in 1869, the property was Innsbruck’s first luxury hotel and remains one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Located directly opposite the central station, it quickly became a premier meeting place for aristocrats, business leaders, artists and international travelers. In 1883 the hotel added the famous Barocksaal (Baroque Salon), which later hosted receptions, balls and social gatherings and events. Over the years the hotel has welcomed notable guests including Queen Elizabeth II, Albert II of Monaco and The Rolling Stones.

The hotel will offer approximately 120 rooms and is expected to open in 2029 after an ambitious complete renovation, marking the arrival of the NH Collection brand in the heart of Tyrol and strengthening Minor Hotels’ presence in Austria’s vibrant urban hospitality market.

The agreement was signed with Dr. Ernst Hutterer, owner of the property, who is committed to preserving and revitalizing one of Innsbruck’s most iconic hotels. International real estate consultancy Christie & Co supported the structured search process of operators.

A characteristic hotel in a prime location
NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa is located just a few minutes from the historic center and surrounded by the Tyrolean Alps. It offers direct access to the city’s main cultural, tourist and business attractions.

The hotel is within walking distance of major attractions including the Golden Roof, Maria-Thérèsien-Straße, the Imperial Hofburg, the Hofkerk, the Stadtturm, the Hofgarten and the Congress Innsbruck, further increasing its appeal to both international visitors and domestic travelers.

Following the renovation, the property is expected to regain its position as one of the city’s flagship hotels, combining its historic character with the contemporary standards of the NH Collection brand. The revitalization plan also includes an expansion of the number of rooms, the addition of additional floors and the development of a rooftop bar, reinforcing the hotel’s ambition to set a new benchmark in Innsbruck’s hospitality scene.

A premium guest experience rooted in wellness and gastronomy
NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa is designed as a destination for both hotel guests and local residents. The property is expected to feature a restaurant and bar with external access, a wellness area, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and dedicated areas for meetings and events.

A defining element of the project is the revival of the historic Baroque hall, which will once again become a prestigious venue for parties, events and social gatherings.

Austria, a strategic growth market for Minor Hotels
The signing of NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa further strengthens Minor Hotels’ footprint in Austria. The group already operates eight hotels in Vienna, Salzburg and Graz, and the addition of Innsbruck expands its presence to one of the country’s most important destinations.

This signing reflects our strategy to grow with distinctive assets in key urban destinations across Europe. NH Collection is a brand particularly suited to iconic hotels like this one, where heritage, location and quality of experience come together in a compelling way. We see great potential in this project and its ability to create long-term value for our partners, guests and the destination.
