Agadir, Morocco’s best-kept coastal secret, is now directly connected to Montreal, Canada | News

The Morocco National Tourist Office (MNTO) and Air Transat recently announced a historic new non-stop route connecting Montréal (YUL) to Agadir (AGA), launched on June 12. This marks the first-ever direct flight between Montreal and Agadir, as well as the first direct connection between North America and southern Morocco – where a hidden gem awaits travelers.

Described as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Agadir is located on the western Atlantic edge of Morocco, with a 10 kilometer long beach, palm-lined promenades and more than 300 days of sunshine annually. With its almost ubiquitous sunshine, Agadir has built a reputation as an exceptional holiday destination in the country. Styled more like a Mediterranean resort, Agadir is very different from what many travelers would imagine Morocco to be.

From forested landscapes and coastal landscapes to vibrant market towns, Agadir offers a variety of experiences, all within easy reach of the city center. Here are three experiences you’ll want to add to your Agadir itinerary:

Walk on the wild side of Morocco: Souss Massa National Park and Paradise Valley
Agadir is home to some of Morocco’s most spectacular natural landscapes. The Souss Massa National Park is home to more than 250 bird species, including the rare bald ibis, as well as antelopes and other protected wildlife. Paradise Valley and the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains are just an hour’s drive away and offer hiking trails, natural pools, argan forests and agricultural landscapes shaped by centuries of Berber tradition.

Relax by the Atlantic Ocean in Taghazout
Just north of Agadir, Taghazout has evolved from a quiet fishing village to one of Morocco’s most recognized surfing destinations, attracting travelers all year round. With its relaxing coastal atmosphere, sweeping ocean views, cuisine and culture, the Agadir-Taghazout region offers everything travelers love about the Mediterranean (but remember: it’s actually the Atlantic Ocean!) on Morocco’s scenic coast. Combined with year-round sunshine and world-class surfing, it is especially attractive as an ideal warm-weather escape for those in northern climates.

Get lost in Souk El Had: discover the daily Moroccan life of Agadir
For a taste of everyday Moroccan life, visit Souk El Had, one of Morocco’s largest traditional markets and the third largest in the world. With around 6,000 stalls spread over clearly marked sections, the market is surprisingly easy to navigate. Inside, travelers can browse everything from herbs, olives and fresh produce to handmade ceramics, textiles, leather goods, jewelry, rugs and everyday Moroccan household items. The experience is highly sensory and immersive, with dedicated eating and resting areas where visitors can sample traditional Moroccan dishes, grilled seafood and quick street snacks while soaking up the energy and bustle of the market.

With new direct flights from Montreal now connecting travelers directly to Agadir, the coast of Morocco is easier to reach than ever before. There are also multiple one-stop options from North American gateway cities such as New York (JFK), Boston, Los Angeles and Chicago with international airlines such as Royal Air Moroc, Air France, British Airways or Iberia. Consult your travel agent for more information.
