‘The Studio’ sets a record for a freshman comedy with a BAFTA win

Apple TV’s “The Studio” added the latest major trophy to one of the most dominant awards shows in modern television history, winning the International category at the BAFTA Television Awards in London on Sunday night.

After taking home top prizes at the Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes, The Actor Awards, PGA, DGA and WGA, the film has now cemented its place in history as the most decorated freshman comedy ever produced.

This win marks Apple TV’s first win in the BAFTA Television International category and makes “The Studio” the first comedy to claim the award in a decade. It also positions the Seth Rogen-led satire as the most awarded series of this year’s industry cycle, capping a twelve-month run that has effectively cornered the table at major U.S. and international guild and critics organizations.

Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of the embattled Continental Studios, in the inside-Hollywood comedy that quickly emerged as one of the most talked about shows of the year last spring. The series follows Remick and his core team of warring executives as they feud with narcissistic talent and corporate overlords, with every casting, visit and awards ceremony landing somewhere between glittering success and career-ending catastrophe.

“The Studio” arrived at the BAFTA ceremony already with the most Emmy-winning freshman comedy in history, with 13 wins in the last cycle, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy for Rogen, in addition to setting the record as the most awarded comedy ever.

The broader scope includes Golden Globe wins for best comedy series and best actor in a comedy for Rogen; Critics Choice wins for comedy series, best actor for Rogen and best supporting actor for Ike Barinholtz; an American Film Institute TV Program of the Year honor; and a clean slate at the Actor Awards, including Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Male Actor for Rogen and a posthumous win for Outstanding Female Actor for Catherine O’Hara. The show also claimed top series honors from the Producers Guild, Writers Guild, Directors Guild, American Cinema Editors, Art Directors Guild, Cinema Audio Society, Casting Society of America, Costume Designers Guild, American Society of Cinematographers and Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild.

Apple TV scored a total of three wins at Sunday’s BAFTA TV ceremony. Sunday’s harvest extends an ongoing BAFTA run for Apple TV, which includes four wins in 2025 and another four in 2024. All three of Apple TV’s winning titles will be streamed worldwide.
