The Georgian joins Hyatt |’s Unbound collection News

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that The Georgian, a legendary oceanfront hotel on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, has joined The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a global portfolio of distinctive luxury hotels known for their individuality and character.

Located on the Pacific Ocean with its striking facade, The Georgian has been part of Santa Monica’s coastline story since the 1930s. Built by hotelier Mrs. Rosamond Borde and designed by architect M. Eugene Durfee, the hotel’s Havana deco and sun-drenched public spaces celebrate an era of Hollywood optimism, a signature personality that has quietly endeared it to generations of visitors and locals alike.

After a meticulous restoration completed in 2023 by owner and operator JB Hotel Group, The Georgian re-emerged as a living piece of Santa Monica culture. The monument’s turquoise facade was meticulously restored to its original hue, Art Deco plasterwork and moldings were revived and historic details in the public areas were preserved and reinterpreted with restraint. Landscaped terraces and updated coastal plantings now frame the ocean views, softening the threshold between Ocean Avenue and the Pacific Ocean beyond.

“I am truly thrilled to have such an iconic and beautiful hotel join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt,” said Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury, Hyatt. “From the unmistakable turquoise facade to the Art Deco details that nod to the glamor of Hollywood’s golden age, The Georgian conveys a personality that is both confident and timeless. Our role is to protect and celebrate that individuality – the history, the design, the sense of theater – while bringing Hyatt’s strength and global reach to support its next chapter.”

Rooms and suites

The Georgian offers 84 rooms, including 28 suites, many surrounded by uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean. Inside, the spirit of the 1930s remains in the details through curved lines, layered textures and soft coastal light, but the experience is unmistakably contemporary. In the west-facing suites, panoramic ocean views extend from sunrise to sunset, giving guests a front-row seat to the changing Santa Monica sky and the gentle surroundings of Ocean Avenue below.

Dine and drink

Dining at The Georgian revives the hotel’s tradition as a social anchor: a place where locals and visitors gather for a morning cup of coffee or late-night conversation. The signature restaurant celebrates seasonal California produce in an art deco setting; an intimate bar nods to the hotel’s Hollywood past with classic cocktails and late-night energy; and a relaxed café space extends towards Ocean Avenue, inviting guests and locals alike from dawn to dusk.

The cozy energy throughout the hotel feels both polished and unpretentious – less about spectacle and more about atmosphere: the glow of the sunset through the windows, a well-crafted cocktail and the tranquil feeling of being exactly where you need to be.

A real sense of culture and community

The Georgian actively cherishes his role as a cultural anchor. The library, with a curated Hugo Guinness collection, presents a fully stocked study of books curated by Lee Kaplan of Arcana: Books on the Arts in Culver City. Modern bestsellers and vintage books on the history of art and culture in Los Angeles and Santa Monica and other foundational elements for The Georgian Story can be found here. From Joan Didion to Eve Babitz to a private collection of Christopher Isherwood, the library’s literary curation is truly one of a kind.
