Stansted highlights heatwave-free holiday options as Britain braces for another scorching heatwave | News

As parts of Britain prepare for another spell of warm weather, just a week after record temperatures swept the country, London Stansted highlights a range of cooler destinations where summer temperatures are often more comfortable.
While many popular Mediterranean resorts are also expected to see temperatures rise into the 30s, destinations like Scandinavia and the Irish coast typically stay in the high teens or low twenties, offering a refreshing alternative for travelers looking to escape the heat.
From Stansted, passengers can choose from more than 200 destinations, serving more European destinations than any other UK airport, making it easy to trade high temperatures for cooler climates.
Cooler options this summer include:
Copenhagen (Denmark) – average summer temperature around 20°C
Gothenburg (Sweden) – around 19°C, with coastal winds
Stockholm (Sweden) – typically 20–22°C in summer
Oslo (Norway) – around 20–22°C, with long daylight hours
Helsinki (Finland) – average 18–20°C
Funchal (Madeira) – typically 23–27°C, with warm sunshine and Atlantic sea breezes without extreme temperatures.
For those who want to stay a little closer to home, Great Britain and Ireland offer equally lenient conditions:
Edinburgh (Scotland) – around 18–20°C, ideal for exploring the city
Dublin (Ireland) – typically 17–19°C
Cork (Ireland) – about 17–19°C with a coastal feel
Kerry (Ireland) – mild and often breezy at 16–18°C
Knock (Ireland) – cooler conditions, average 15–17°C
These destinations offer a welcome alternative for travelers who want to avoid extreme heat and still enjoy a summer holiday to the fullest.
Ciaran Brannigan, commercial director at London Stansted, said:
