Some of AMC’s biggest spectacles won’t be on TV screens

Some of AMC Global Media’s most interesting moments won’t be available on traditional screens in the coming months
The company that owns AMC, IFC, HiDive and other properties is accelerating moves to unexpected locations and connecting with communities in places that might not previously have been associated with TV.
AMC, for example, has entered into a new partnership with Meta, which makes its shows and movies available through Meta Quest, the standalone virtual reality headsets once called Oculus. “We will launch a number of our streaming apps on Meta Quest, starting with AMC+ later this year,” said Kim Kelleher, president and chief commercial officer of AMC Global Media, speaking during a presentation to advertisers Wednesday evening. “Our flagship streaming service will be one of the first entertainment apps available on this groundbreaking device. This is such a meaningful and expansive new partnership for our company and one that underscores our ability to move quickly and innovate to serve our viewers.”
Under Kelleher, AMC has become quite agnostic about the distribution of its programming, trying to gather impressions from shows appearing on streaming services, FAST channels and placement on TV manufacturers’ video services.
AMC will host a fan event in June at New York’s Beacon Theater where the Vampire Lestat will perform original music in a live performance following a screening of the premiere episode of the character’s series of the same name, which will debut on TV on Sunday, June 7. Lestat is played by actor Sam Reid and is joined on tour by sponsors POM Wonderful and Fender Musical Instruments Corp.
AMC will continue its partnership with Sphere Entertainment Co. expanding by creating bespoke content for the latter company’s signature events and content space, which aims to polish its ‘Best Christmas Ever’ programming schedule. The two entities will team up again for a new Halloween-themed promotion in support of the AMC “FearFest” events. The holiday performance will be called ‘Sphere of Cheer’ and expands the two companies’ partnership beyond their ‘Sphere of Fear’. Both AMC and Sphere are controlled by the Dolan family.
