Regent Hotels & Resorts partners with 28th Shanghai International Film Festival | News

Regent has been named the official hotel partner of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), taking place from June 12 to 21, 2026. Regent Shanghai on the Bund will host the festival’s official opening gala dinner in the third iteration of Regent’s global film festival series, which also includes the Festival de Cannes and the Hong Kong Film Awards. On this memorable evening, filmmakers, movie stars and the most celebrated movie stars gather in the hotel ballroom. Here, against the backdrop of panoramas of the Huangpu River and Shanghai’s skyline, guests can experience Regent’s hospitality and fine dining by chefs Ting Wai Wan and Lorenzo Merolle.
Further deepening the collaboration is the introduction of the Shanghai International Film Festival SIFF PROJECT Regent Presents “Cinematic Escapes” Special Focus Award. This platform champions new perspectives from emerging filmmakers, allowing them to bring their vision to the big screen.
The supporting role that Regent will play during the Shanghai International Film Festival further strengthens the brand’s cinematic reputation. From the Côte d’Azur in Cannes to the harbor lights of Hong Kong, and now to the meeting point of the Bund and Suzhou Creek, Regent’s calendar of international film affiliations showcases the role Regent hospitality plays in some of the world’s greatest entertainment moments taking place in the dramatic destinations where its hotels are located.
Rita Jiang, Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer, IHG Greater China, said: “Luxury hotels and films share a natural affinity, both focused on creating lasting moments and refining details that resonate. From Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, to Regent Hong Kong, and now Regent Shanghai on the Bund, Regent consistently positions its properties as stages for cultural moments, interweaving its vision of modern luxury with cinematic encounters. This partnership with the Shanghai International Film Festival reflects both the long-standing cinematic Regent’s heritage and its continued focus on Greater China within its global journey. Through opening gala reception experiences, co-production project initiatives and immersive brand moments, we hope to bring the spirit of the festival beyond the screen and create thoughtful experiences where guests feel cared for, inspired and welcomed in their own moment in the spotlight.
Over the past eight years, IHG has redefined Regent’s position in the world of higher luxury. Flagship locations including Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, Regent Hong Kong and Regent Shanghai on the Bund have heralded a new era for the brand. These hotels share the art and cachet of cinema and place guests firmly at the center of the story – not as spectators, but as protagonists of their own stay. Each hotel is an example of a cinematic escape where Regent hospitality lifts stars of the screen above the noise during the film festival calendar. This ethos is designed to enable guests to present the very best versions of themselves as they prepare to step into the spotlight.
During the Shanghai International Film Festival, guests of Regent Shanghai on the Bund are invited to experience limited-edition themed culinary moments, including the SIFF Golden Goblet-inspired cocktail “GILDED FRAMES” and chocolate pastry creation “Entering the Frame,” available exclusively during the festival.
Regent’s global film calendar opened in Regent Hong Kong, where the red carpet was laid for the Hong Kong Film Awards. Every evening, a glittering skyline of the best films poses in the hotel lobby next to the Avenue of Stars, framed by the Victoria Harbour. As an official hotel partner for three consecutive years, the hotel has introduced creations including the “44th Hues” cocktail and a sculptural chocolate interpretation of the Goddess Trophy.
Steeped in film history, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel hosted the very first ‘International Film Festival’ in 1946 and has since built an enduring relationship with what is now known as the Festival de Cannes for almost 80 years. Several of the hotel’s signature suites were inspired by cinematic royalty – Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock – with the same names in tribute to the hotel’s starring role as the location for Hitchcock’s 1954 film To Catch a Thief. Legend has it that while filming at the Carlton, Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier III of Monaco, whom she would marry in 1956.
Building on this legacy, Regent, in collaboration with Vanity Fair, organized the film festival’s first major event for the fourth year in a row: the Cannes Opening Luncheon on Tuesday, May 12. This annual event brought together a celebrated cast of screen legends and rising stars at the Carlton Cannes Beach Club to celebrate the start of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Guests included Gillian Anderson, Alex Pettyfer, True Whitaker, Lucas Bravo, Emmett Scanlan, Anthony Boyle and Maika Monroe.
Guests have been making grand entrances through the doors of Regent addresses for more than a century. Born in 1970 and now part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts luxury and lifestyle portfolio, today there are eleven Regent hotels and resorts worldwide, including Regent Santa Monica Beach and Regent Bali Canggu, with twelve additional hotels set to open in the coming years, including in Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Kyoto, Sanya, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Riyadh.
