Rail Europe adds Swiss mountain excursions to its trading offering | News

Rail Europe is expanding its Swiss portfolio with a wide range of mountain excursions, now available to travel agencies and distribution partners via Rail Portal and API channels.

The new offering gives partners access to some of Switzerland’s best-known mountain tours, making it easier to combine train travel and mountain experiences within the same booking process. Among the mountain excursions and panoramic train experiences now available are Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, Gornergrat, Pilatus, Titlis, Schilthorn, Glacier 3000, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Rigi, Säntis, Chäserrugg and Brienzer Rothorn, in addition to scenic mountain destinations and train experiences including Grindelwald First, Harder Kulm, Schynige Platte, Rochers-de-Naye, Stanserhorn, Stoos and Monte Generoso.

The launch comes as demand for Switzerland continues to grow in international markets, especially among long-haul travelers looking for more experiential routes. For many travel agents, mountain peaks have increasingly become part of the core trip rather than an optional add-on, especially for first-time travelers visiting Switzerland.

“We are seeing more and more requests from partners who want to book everything in one place: Swiss rail passes, point-to-point travel and mountain excursions together,” says Florence Pasquier, Chief Commercial Officer. “These experiences are among the most iconic parts of traveling in Switzerland, so it felt like a natural next step to bring them into our existing distribution ecosystem.”

Developed in collaboration with Travel Switzerland and SBB, the portfolio includes both full-fare and discounted products for selected Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Half Fare Card holders.

Products are available in all Rail Europe markets without geographical restrictions.

The expansion also reflects a broader shift in the travel industry towards higher-quality, experience-based rail routes. While Switzerland has long been a high-performing destination for Rail Europe, interest in premium scenic travel continues to grow in Asia, North America, Brazil and Europe, among others.

Most excursions are delivered as mobile-ready tickets with QR code functionality, simplifying the customer journey from booking to travel. For some high-demand routes, including Jungfraujoch during high season, seat reservations may still need to be arranged locally.

The launch builds on continued momentum for Switzerland within Rail Europe’s B2B business, where Swiss rail bookings recorded 16% year-on-year passenger growth last year.

For travel sellers, the addition creates new opportunities to increase travel value while responding to growing demand for more seamless and flexible European rail experiences.
