Niseko Village unveils monumental gondola transformation for winter 2026 | News

A new era of mountain adventure begins in winter 2026 when YTL Hotels’ Niseko Village unveils its long-awaited gondola upgrade. Designed with both comfort and discovery in mind, the next-generation lift system promises to transform the mountain experience, offering guests smoother journeys, spectacular views and more time on the slopes.
The new Mori-no gondola replaces the long-standing Mori-no chair, which has been transporting skiers and snowboarders since the early 1980s, and will feature sleek cabins that more than double its lifting capacity while enveloping passengers in warmth and comfort. Divided into two sections with an intermediate station, the gondola is designed for all-weather performance and will continue to operate even when conditions become more challenging at higher altitudes. Of the 86 cabins, four are VIP cabins with tables for light dining, while two glass-floored cabins offer an exciting new perspective of Niseko’s snow-capped landscape.
The phased development adds a level of flexibility unique to Niseko. When the first route opens in December 2026, guests will be able to travel from the base area to the intermediate station. Upon completion of the second section in December 2027, the gondola will enable a seamless journey from the base to the summit, without passengers having to change cabins. Guests can choose whether to disembark at the way station or continue to the summit, tailoring their journey to snow conditions, weather and skill level.
The Wonderland Chair will also undergo a significant upgrade, moving from a single-chair lift to a two-person chairlift, further improving mountain access and circulation. Together, these improvements will reduce wait times, improve safety and provide guests with more flexibility as they explore the mountain.
In addition to achievements, the project reflects a deep respect for Niseko’s natural environment. By replacing five outdated lift systems with two modern gondola lines and a new chairlift, the resort will reduce its construction footprint while maintaining the integrity of the mountain landscape and providing a world-class lift experience.
“With these new gondolas, Niseko Village offers not only improved access, but a whole new way to experience the mountain – combining comfort, style and sustainability,” said Shiau Wee Long, Chief Executive Officer of Niseko Village.
These upgrades cement Niseko Village’s position among the world’s most inspiring year-round mountain destinations and set a new benchmark for mountain travel in Japan.
