JAL achieves single-use plastic reduction targets for FY 2025 | News

To fulfill the responsibility of passing on our precious earth to the next generation, JAL Group works towards the effective use of limited resources. By promoting 3R (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle) + 1 (Redesign), JAL Group has established reduction targets through FY 2025 for all single-use plastic from JAL Genuine items delivered to customers. (*1)
In addition to achieving the JAL Group’s FY2025 GX (Green Transformation) management targets, JAL has also successfully achieved the FY2025 plastic reduction management targets. (*2)

● Cabins and lounges: No use of new petroleum-based plastics: 100% achieved
● Freight and Airport: Switch all items to eco-friendly materials (*3): 100% achieved

■ Plastic reduction initiatives
Single-use plastics emit CO2 during production and combustion, contributing to climate change, and their low biodegradability causes marine pollution and serious damage to ecosystems. To reduce the number of new petroleum-based single-use plastics, JAL began assessing the need for each item, with the highest priority given to ‘Reduce’. Those items that could not be withdrawn due to hygiene or service considerations have been redesigned in collaboration with suppliers to be reusable or switched to alternative materials that do not come from virgin petroleum. ■ Initiatives for effective use of limited resources
In addition to reducing single-use plastics, the JAL Group is working to effectively use limited resources, such as recycling onboard waste and reducing food waste, with the aim of achieving a circular economy.

The JAL Group will continue to strive for the effective use of limited resources through initiatives such as reducing new petroleum-based single-use plastics, while continuing to tackle climate change, conserve biodiversity and promote a circular economy.
