Holland America Evolution: Largest Fleet Update in the Line’s 153-Year History | News

Building on strong momentum and record performance, Holland America Line has announced Holland America Evolution, a bold multi-year investment to thoughtfully reinvent six ships. Evolution represents the most ambitious update to the guest experience in the company’s 153-year history and will deliver a comprehensive revitalization from bow to stern, while bringing the best of its Pinnacle Class ships across the majority of the fleet.
The multi-year renovation will take place on a ship-by-ship basis and deliver a substantial transformation aimed at expanding onboard choice, adding restaurant and bar options, and updating and reinventing key guest areas – including new stateroom categories and suites – while maintaining the spacious design and intimate ship feel that guests love most.
“Our guests have been very vocal about what they like about our ships and what they want to see more of, and Holland America Evolution is our answer to that,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. “This investment allows us to introduce experiences and locations new to the fleet, add Pinnacle Class favorites like Grand Dutch Café and create new stateroom categories designed for the way people travel today, all while maintaining the perfect ship experience that defines Holland America.”
Signature Class and Vista Class renovations
Evolution will span the four Holland America Vista Class ships – Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam – and the two Signature Class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. The company will invest more than $500 million in these ships for improvements to guest areas and additional staterooms and suites that will increase capacity and provide guests with more choice.
The cruise line works closely with longtime shipbuilding partner Fincantieri, which has built all eleven ships in the company’s fleet. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to quality and precision as each vessel’s improvements take shape.
Oosterdam debuts with the first chapter of Holland America Evolution
Oosterdam will be the first ship to undergo renovations, debuting in fall 2027. Ahead of announcing additional details, Holland America is offering a first look at several guest-facing improvements to the ship. These include the addition of the Grand Dutch Café, a long-standing guest favorite previously only available on Pinnacle Class ships, along with a new range of staterooms including purpose-built Solo Verandahs and expansive panoramic suites. Together, the updates reflect a focused investment in comfort, choice and experience, shaped directly by guest feedback.
New and expanded staterooms and suites
As part of Holland America Evolution, accommodations will be expanded and redesigned to provide more choice and flexibility for guests. The project includes a significant expansion of the stateroom inventory for Oosterdam, adding 76 staterooms while maintaining the ‘room on the rail’ that guests love. New and improved accommodations debuting at Oosterdam include:
NEW: Solo Verandahs: Thirty purpose-built staterooms designed specifically for solo travelers. Each room features a private balcony, dedicated work space and all Holland America Line amenities, meeting strong and growing guest demand.
NEW: Bridgeview Suites: Two new suites offering stunning 180-degree ocean views through panoramic windows, with 900 square feet of space, a wrap-around balcony and separate living and sleeping areas designed to maximize comfort and ocean views. These suites are located at the front of the ship and mimic the perspective seen from the ship’s bridge, which inspired the name ‘Bridgeview’.
Redesigned Pinnacle Suite: The most expansive suite ever introduced on a Vista Class ship, featuring 1,500 square feet of sophisticated living space with panoramic views, a private balcony, separate living room, powder room, bedroom, ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet.
Vista Suites Debut on Oosterdam: Twenty-four Vista Suites, familiar to guests who have sailed on Pinnacle Class ships, are being introduced for the first time on Oosterdam, offering spacious, bright premium accommodations with a comfortable seating area, oversized windows and a private veranda ideal for enjoying ocean views.
Grand Dutch Café comes to more guests
As part of Holland America Evolution, the Grand Dutch Café is expanding to reach more guests with its debut in Oosterdam. Previously only available on Pinnacle Class ships, the addition of the location reflects a continued focus on experiences that guests consistently rank among their favorites. Inspired by European café culture and rooted in the cruise line’s Dutch heritage, the Grand Dutch Café is a relaxed all-day meeting place designed to fit naturally into the flow of the day, whether guests are passing by or settling in. Located on Deck 3, near the atrium, it serves as a welcoming anchor on board, providing a casual yet sophisticated environment that reflects the communal role that cafes play in everyday European life and enhances Holland America Line’s unhurried way of traveling.
“This is an exciting moment for Holland America and our guests, and we’re just getting started,” said Bodensteiner. “Over the coming months we will unveil a number of exciting additions to Oosterdam, as well as the other five ships that are part of this evolution.”
Sustainably revitalize the fleet
At Oosterdam and during the renovations, sustainability is a key part of the updates, with an emphasis on revitalizing the fleet, improving efficiency and reducing the overall impact on the environment. The line is refreshing and replaces interiors with a strong focus on waste reduction and circular design, prioritizing upcycling and material reuse, while offering greater lightness and an elevated, timeless look and feel.
Behind the scenes, the company makes targeted technical investments to improve energy efficiency. This work includes smarter energy management and improved system performance, aimed at reducing energy demand and lowering operational carbon intensity over time.
