A look inside Jaime King’s marriage and divorce drama after a nasty breakup

Matters became even more heated when Newman filed new documents in September 2020, alleging that King “emptied and closed” their joint bank accounts. As a result, he asked the court to make his estranged wife pay all his legal fees.

In addition to asking for financial compensation, he revealed that he was the primary caregiver of their children and that King was “rarely alone with the children” due to her alleged history of substance abuse.

“I don’t remember her ever taking them anywhere alone – there was always a nanny and a godparent, someone to supervise and help her,” he shared in the legal documents. “In 2015, it became clear to me that Jaime was incapable of caring for the children. She simply did not have the capacity or ability to care for them given her substance abuse issues.”

Newman requested sole physical custody of their children in a separate filing in November 2020.

King responded in a motion, writing: “In February 2020 [Newman] I tried to destroy my professional life. [He] at least one of the executives called out Black summer after midnight, demanding information about me. [He] I had a third party call several people who worked on the show and demand that action be taken before I “committed suicide” with drugs or alcohol.

“No one on set believed I had a problem because I didn’t (and don’t). In fact, I was on set on time every day and always professional.”
