Whether you’re a skin care enthusiast or a novice, two words you’ll hear again and again are “double cleansing.” The process is simple, it literally consists of double cleansing your face with a oil-based formula and then a creamy or gel-like cleanser. Oil attracts oil (also called sebum), and cleansing with an oil-based cleanser effectively removes makeup, dirt, and other pore-clogging gunk. However, that is as long as you apply the correct double cleaning solution.
After trying dozens of makeup removing balms, I finally found my holy grail: Dr. Althea’s Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm – and it’s less than $30 at Amazon. For me, few things are as satisfying as removing my makeup with a cleansing balm, and the sherbet-like texture of this pick is heavenly. My makeup melts off in seconds, but it’s the soothing hydration my skin feels afterwards that keeps me coming back.
Dr. Althea is a K-beauty brand known for their affordable yet effective skin care solutions. While some makeup removing balms are full of cheap carrier oils that can leave skin feeling like a greasy donut (and not in a good way), I never feel an ounce of oily residue with this Dr. Althea choice. All it takes is a quarter-sized amount to effectively melt makeup or sunscreen. And yes: it is also safe for removing eye makeup.
As someone with sensitive skin, it doesn’t take much for my face to look noticeably irritated. The simplest ingredients can aggravate my naturally pink skin, so believe me when I say this is the only cleansing balm I’ve experienced noticeable improvements with. This is partly thanks to madecassoide – a plant-based, anti-inflammatory ingredient that soothes irritated skin while providing a host of anti-aging benefits.
I could go on and on about the rest of the skincare benefits of this product – like how it’s a vegan, cruelty-free formula that’s also paraben- and fragrance-free – but I’ll leave it at that. If you can’t remove makeup with a cleansing balm, or if you’re tired of your current skincare range, this K-beauty pick is a total winner. Makeup and dirt aren’t really gone unless you double cleanse, and it’s essential to make sure your skin can absorb serums and other facial treatments.
I don’t believe you should spend hundreds of dollars just to find an effective formula. There are so many great skincare heroes that cost under $50, including my favorite cleansing balm. Try it yourself: you won’t be disappointed!
