Luigi Mangione exploded outside the courthouse because he didn’t have a lawyer
The accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Luigi Mangione went ballistic outside a Pennsylvania courthouse this week because he was “irritated” that he had no legal representation at the time, his lawyer said.
Attorney Thomas Dickey sat down for an interview with CNN host Erin Burnett on Wednesday evening and set the record straight on the shocking moment Mangione shouted at the media as he was led by police into the Blair County, PA courthouse for his extradition hearing a day earlier .
Wearing an orange jumpsuit with his hands cuffed behind him, Mangione shouted at reporters a cryptic message about being “completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their experiences!”

During his CNN interview, Dickey cleared up the confusion by telling Burnett that Mangione was “irritated” and “agitated” about being accused of murder and other serious crimes.
As you know, Mangione is accused of fatally shooting UHC CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street last week because he allegedly had problems with the health care system.
Dickey also said Mangione had no legal representation until he arrived in court for his hearing on Tuesday.
After his appearance in court, Mangione’s attitude changed because he retained Dickey, who would fight for his rights, the lawyer said. Dickey cited video that showed the alleged killer looking calmer as he left the courthouse surrounded by officers.
During the hearing, Mangione refused to be extradited to New York, where he faced a slew of charges, including murder. So for now, Mangione will be held without bail in a Pennsylvania detention center as prosecutors and the defense wage a legal battle over returning him to New York.
