Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’ Purchased by CBBC in Great Britain

“Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir,” the globally popular TV series from the hit Paris-based animated franchise, has been acquired by BBC Children’s and Education and will make its fifth season debut on the channel later this week.

The deal, brokered by Mediawan Kids and Family, includes the broadcast rights to seasons one through six of the series, as well as five Miraculous World TV event specials. The franchise comes from Miraculous Corp, a new joint venture between Mediawan and ZAG. Its founder, Jeremy Zag, produced and co-created the series together with Thomas Astruc and Nathanaël Bronn.

The series follows the lives of two Parisian teenagers, Marinette and Adrien, who transform into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir to protect their city from mysterious villains while facing the challenges of school, friendships and secret identities.

The five Miraculous World TV Event specials expand Ladybug and Cat Noir’s adventures beyond Paris to other international locations such as New York, Shanghai and the United Kingdom, introducing new designs and characters.

“CBBC is committed to delivering high-quality children’s programming that entertains and inspires,” said Maria Doolan, head of content partnerships and distribution, Miraculous Corp. “With this agreement, fans can look forward to enjoying the full breadth of Miraculous storytelling on CBBC, from the show’s inception to the latest exciting episodes and special events.”

Sarah Muller, senior head of commissioning 7+ at BBC, says the show’s “exciting mix of action-packed plots, relatable characters and themes of courage, teamwork and responsibility makes it a standout addition to CBBC’s range of family-friendly content. ”
