FX Wins Global, North American Marketing Team of the Year at GEMA Awards

FX was named North American and Global Marketing Team of the Year at the Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ inaugural GEMA Awards event on Thursday. The Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Arts & Sciences is the organization formerly known as Promax that relaunched in February and expanded beyond TV into industries dedicated to film, music, sports and video game marketing executives.

The organization announced the winners of the North American, Global, Latin American and Local competitions Thursday evening at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Among other top awards, Scandinavian agency New Land was named Global Agency of the Year, alongside Europe Agency of the Year, while Zealot was named North America Agency of the Year.

The new GEMA awards are timed to the award seasons of their respective fields: film during Oscar season; music during the Grammy season; TV during Emmy season; and games in the fall, when the Video Game Awards take place.

“GEMA is excited to honor outstanding work from around the world during the first TV/Streaming Awards celebration in our new configuration,” said Stacy La Cotera, president and CEO of GEMA. “We have been privileged to see so much of the best work this industry has to offer through these competitions and we congratulate FX, New Land and Zealot on their outstanding ‘of the year’ wins.”

Comedian and “Loot” star Ron Funches hosted the GEMA Awards event. Also launched was the GEMA Spotlight Honors, which included Riot Games and YouTube’s Reel Rejects. La Cotera said the awards “recognize innovation and inspiration in the transmedia landscape.

“Both Riot Games and Reel Rejects are creative businesses that have successfully expanded their brands across platforms to reach fans wherever they are,” she said. “We are thrilled to honor them both with our first-ever Spotlight Honors.”

The nominees and winners for TV/Streaming Worldwide and North America will be determined by a first round of online voting to determine the nominees, and then a second round of judging from industry peers to select the winners. The winners of all four competitions can be found at gema.org.
