Search demand for cooler destinations due to persistent heat waves | News
After a week of record temperatures across Europe, and with Britain set to return next week, leading online travel agency Opodo (part of eDreams ODIGEO) is sharing brand new data that reveals our growing interest in finding coolcation escapes.
Opodo analyzed search data from last week for summer travel from Britain to seven popular European ‘coolcation’ destinations and found that interest has increased dramatically compared to the week before.
For searches conducted between June 21 and 25, compared to searches conducted between June 16 and 20, the data shows bounces across the board:
Gothenburg: +33%
Stockholm: +22%
Zurich: +20%
Geneva: +20%
Oslo: +18%
Innsbruck: +14%
Salzburg: +5%
Global bookings have also increased:
Oslo: +42%
Stockholm: +19%
Geneva: +19%
Zurich: +9%
Data scope: Analysis of UK searches and global bookings made between June 21 – 25, 2026 versus June 16 – 20, 2026, looking at travel between June 25 and August 31 to Zurich, Stockholm, Geneva, Oslo, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Gothenburg.
