Hyatt strengthens presence in Italy and announces three openings | News

Hyatt Hotels Corporation today reaffirmed its commitment to expand its portfolio in Italy with three new hotel openings. The three planned hotels will add 428 rooms and suites in Italy, one of Europe’s most important travel markets, where WTTC predicts international visitor spending will reach a record high of €78 billion by 2035[1].
Hyatt currently offers 170 hotels in Europe across 19 brands, including six hotels across five brands in Italy, with locations in Milan, Venice, Rome, Florence and Sardinia. Since 2019, Hyatt has quadrupled the number of rooms in its Italian portfolio and continues to grow, with more than 40 hotels across Europe in the coming years.
The planned additions would broaden Hyatt’s brand presence in Italy across three distinct segments where Hyatt sees continued demand from owners and guests: higher luxury, lifestyle and luxury, and underscore the role of conversions in bringing global brands to in-demand Italian destinations. Hyatt Regency Rome Central and Thompson Rome are expected to introduce two Hyatt brands in Italy for the first time, while Park Hyatt Taormina will expand the iconic Park Hyatt brand beyond Milan to one of Sicily’s best-known leisure destinations.
As Hyatt continues to grow its footprint in Italy, these planned additions would expand access for the 66 million World of Hyatt members worldwide, providing new opportunities to stay in key Italian destinations.
Expected to open in late Q3 2026 near Rome’s central Termini station, Hyatt Regency Rome Central is designed to meet the city’s strong demand for business, meetings and events, with a central location offering direct access to transport and conference activities. The planned full-service hotel marks the debut of the Hyatt Regency brand in Italy and reflects the brand’s global strength with more than 240 hotels and resorts in more than 50 countries – and its role in supporting large-scale gatherings in addition to leisure travel. The hotel is expected to feature 238 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, pool bar and an Asian-inspired restaurant, Niroma.
Thompson Rome, also expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, would introduce Hyatt’s Thompson Hotels lifestyle brand to Italy. The brand is positioned around design, dining and local culture, making Rome a natural market for its Italian debut. The planned 69-room hotel, housed in a repurposed landmark building near the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Piazza Venezia, is expected to include three dining options, including an Italian Riviera-inspired restaurant on the sixth floor and a rooftop cocktail bar.
Park Hyatt Taormina, expected to open in Sicily in 2028, would become the second Park Hyatt hotel in Italy, joining Park Hyatt Milan. The brand’s focus on discerning luxury, residential design, art, culture and food and wine aligns with Taormina’s position as a high-end leisure destination. The planned 121-suite hotel is expected to include private terraces, views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, locally inspired restaurants and a spa.
“Italy is a key growth market for Hyatt as it combines strong travel demand with a large number of independent hotels,” said Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President Development, EAME, Hyatt. “For owners considering a brand relationship or conversion, Hyatt offers global distribution, booking channels and access to more than 66 million World of Hyatt members – creating powerful network effects as our presence in Italy continues to grow.”
“With the expected openings of Hyatt Regency Rome Central and Thompson Rome this summer, and the planned opening of Park Hyatt Taormina in 2028, we expect to offer travelers more Hyatt options in Rome and Sicily,” added Galvao Pinto.
