Summer adventures in Isère, French Alps | News

Summer skiing… but not as you know it

Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors has signed a contract with Skwheel to become the first E-Skool in Isère. The French start-up is pioneering the world’s first electric all-terrain skis that recreate the thrill of carving down a mountain all year round. Available in two models, the Peak and Peak S, these electric skis turn all types of terrain – including sand and gravel – into ski slopes. Starting this summer, visitors to Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors can choose from one of three different Skwheel experiences: introductory sessions; guided routes showcasing the natural beauty of the Vercors; and advanced training for those who want to go further and faster. https://www.skwheel.com/

A bivouac and astronomy adventure

Experience a micro-adventure in Tréminis on the outskirts of Trièves with mountain guide and astronomer Freddy Melmoux. Set up camp on a high mountain meadow, enjoy a trapper’s meal around the campfire and then discover the stars in one of the clearest skies in the Alps. https://www.trieves-vercors.fr

A knitting and walking escape

Grab your knitting needles, put on your walking shoes and head to Nuits de Cimes. Located at 1,300 meters altitude at the Col de l’Arzelier, this eco-friendly retreat combines the gentle pastime of knitting in the forest with the tranquility of a mountain hut. After catching the bus from Grenoble, it’s a short walk into the heart of the forest, where you can completely disconnect and maybe even throw on a woolly hat or two. This activity responds to the growing popularity of analogue hobbies, in a unique mountain environment. https://www.trieves-vercors.fr

Cycling La Belle Via

The 123 km long Belle Via cycle route crosses four departments: Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Drôme and Isère and gently winds its way through mountains, orchards, vineyards and lakes. Stop for a glass of wine or a dip in a mountain lake before continuing, surrounded by views of the Chartreuse, Belledonne and Vercors mountain ranges. With only a gentle slope, the route is also a great option for a cycling holiday with the whole family. https://www.alpes-isere.com/outdoor/activites-velo/la-belle-via-panoramique/

Trekking with a donkey

Board the train to Clelles-Mens where mountain guide Christian Diénot and his donkey await you. Choose from a half-day, full-day or multi-day trek through the region, guided by Christian’s long-eared companion. Walks can be adapted to suit everyone and Christian warmly welcomes people with reduced mobility and elderly visitors, as well as recalcitrant children who may need some encouragement while walking in the mountains! https://www.trieves-vercors.fr/nl/activities/te-paard-met-een-ezel/wandelen-met-ezels/

Karting in the mountains

This summer, zoom down the mountain in Les 7 Laux on a three-wheeled mountain cart. The specially designed 5km trail starts at the top of the Chamois chairlift and winds its way down the mountain. Journeys typically last between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on how brave you feel, and are available to anyone 1.40m and taller. https://www.les7laux.com/ete/activites/mountaincart/

The 3 Brouwerijpad

A new sporting event will take place in the heart of the Chartreuse Mountains on Sunday, September 20, 2026. With four routes to choose from, this is a wonderful way to not only explore the local terrain, but also get to know the local breweries. The flagship event is the Two Loop Lair, a 64 km route with an elevation gain of 3,200 meters that can be completed solo or as a three-person relay. Other options include the 42 km Challenging Noisigotte, alternating long climbs and technical descents; the whistle of the masked marmot, a 26 km trail; and the 12 km pint of speed. Once you’re done, enjoy a weekend of festivities, including concerts, craft and organic beer tastings, and more. Time to start training! https://trail-brasseries.fr/
