Aaron Moten will be the lead actor

“War never changes” is the defining line of the “Fallout” franchise. Amazon hopes this also applies to the Emmys.
Amazon is aiming higher for the second season of ‘Fallout’, unveiling an exclusive to Variety an expanded submission strategy for the Emmy Awards, headlined by Aaron Moten making the leap from support to the lead actor race.
The post-apocalyptic drama, which became one of the success stories of the television genre after its debut in 2024. In its first season, “Fallout” earned 17 Emmy nominations and won Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Supervision and Outstanding Emerging Media Program for “Fallout: Vault 33.”
Based on the long-running video game franchise created by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, “Fallout” was developed for television by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Set more than 200 years after a civilization decimated by a nuclear apocalypse, the series combines dystopian spectacle, dark comedy and emotional character drama, a mix that has made it one of the most critically acclaimed video game adaptations to date.
Season 2, which premiered in December 2025, expands the show’s mythology and puts more emphasis on Motens Maximus, the squire of the Brotherhood of Steel whose moral evolution has become one of the series’ defining arcs. Moten competed for a supporting drama actor during the first season’s campaign, but was ultimately not nominated.
Three-time Emmy nominee Walton Goggins (lead drama actor for “Fallout” in 2024, supporting drama actor for “Justified” in 2011 and “The White Lotus” in 2025), whose performance as the Ghoul became an instant fan favorite, will compete alongside Moten. Ella Purnell returns to the leading drama actress race for her work as Lucy MacLean, the optimistic vault dweller navigating the unforgiving wasteland.
The world cast roster continues to expand.
Supporting drama actors include Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Justin Theroux, Xelia Mendes-Jones and Johnny Pemberton. Additionally, Frances Turner, Annabel O’Hagan and Leslie Uggams are competing for the supporting drama actress category.
The guest fields are fairly filled with Kumail Nanjiani, Macaulay Culkin, Michael Emerson and Ron Perlman competing for guest drama actor, while Dale Dickey and Sarita Choudhury will find love in guest drama actress.
In particular, Amazon is focusing on an extensive craft campaign that reflects the scope and ambition of its production. Directors Liz Friedlander and Lisa Joy will both cast their votes to direct the episodes “The Wrangler” and “The Other Player,” respectively. Wagner and Robertson-Dworet have been signed on to write for the season 2 premiere, “The Innovator.”
Since its launch, “Fallout” has become one of Amazon MGM Studios’ signature genre properties, solidifying the streamer’s growing footprint in the sci-fi space. The series was renewed for a third season months before its second season, signaling long-term confidence in the franchise’s awards and audience potential.
With Emmy voters increasingly embracing genre storytelling, as recent recognition for HBO Max’s “The Last of Us,” Apple TV’s “Severance” and Disney’s “Andor” have shown, “Fallout” could be a dark horse player for the streamer.
Voting for the Emmy nomination round runs from June 11 to 22, with the official 78th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations announced on July 8.
