Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel opens on the Sunshine Coast | News

Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel has opened its doors, welcoming guests to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and marking the arrival of the region’s first new-build internationally branded hotel in more than four decades. The opening marks a new phase for Mooloolaba, as growing domestic and international demand reshapes one of Australia’s most established coastal destinations.
Located on the Mooloolaba Esplanade overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the 180-room hotel introduces a more contemporary approach to beach stays. Sleek interiors and open social spaces create an easy, intuitive foundation that connects guests to the coastline and the energy of the destination.
Scott Wright, General Manager of Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel, said the opening marks the culmination of a long-term vision to take the Sunshine Coast experience to the next level.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first guests today and deliver on our promise to bring a new level of accommodation and dining to the Sunshine Coast,” said Wright.
“Our team is ready to help guests settle in, explore the hotel and experience all this destination has to offer.”
Craig Hooley, Chief Operating Officer of Minor Hotels Australasia, added that the opening marks a significant milestone in the Group’s regional expansion strategy.
“The opening of Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel marks an important step in the continued growth of our premium brand portfolio across Australasia,” said Hooley.
Avani Mooloolaba’s rooftop pool and terrace anchor the experience, while AvaniSpa and AvaniFit provide space to reset. An Avani Experience Host is available to tailor each stay and connect guests with curated experiences on the Sunshine Coast, from ocean activities and coastal trails to local restaurants and cultural touchpoints.

Dinner will be led by Sully’s Rooftop, the hotel’s signature restaurant led by Chef Marky Godbeer, which is open exclusively to internal guests ahead of its public launch on May 15, with the street-level Lobby Bar completing the offering. The menu draws on Godbeer’s gastronomic background, reworked from a relaxed coastal lens and shaped by local producers, with fresh seafood at its heart, including the region’s sought-after Mooloolaba prawns.
The timing aligns with broader investments across the region. The Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalization Project will enhance the beach with extensive parkland and improved access, while the $170 million redevelopment of Sunshine Coast Airport will boost connectivity to key domestic and international markets including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Auckland, Denpasar and Singapore.
Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel joins a growing portfolio of Avani properties across Australia, including Avani Adelaide Residences, Avani Broadbeach Residences on the Gold Coast, Avani Living Queen’s Wharf Residences in Brisbane and Avani Melbourne Central Residences, Avani Melbourne Box Hill Residences and Avani Melbourne Jazz Corner Residences. Together, they reflect Avani’s focused expansion into key urban and resort destinations, with a consistent approach to contemporary, experience-driven travel.

Special opening rates start from AUD 319 (approximately USD 220) per night, based on two adults sharing a Deluxe King Room on a bed and breakfast basis, including taxes and service charges. The opening offer includes daily breakfast, free parking and late check-out, subject to availability. Offer valid for bookings made between May 11 and June 30, 2026, for stays during the limited opening period.
