AirAsia orders 150 Airbus A220 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines from RTX | News

AirAsia Pratt & Whitney, an RTX company (NYSE: RTX), will provide AirAsia with engine maintenance through a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement.
“Today marks an important milestone as we welcome AirAsia as the newest customer in the GTF family,” said Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines, Pratt & Whitney. “This order reflects the airline’s confidence in the GTF engine and its unrivaled fuel efficiency and reduced noise footprint. It lays a strong foundation for a partnership that will support AirAsia’s growth for years to come.”
“AirAsia has spent more than twenty years making the world a smaller place. We have built Malaysia into the world’s best low-cost airline, and we have opened up air travel to millions of people in Asia who had never flown before. This aircraft gives us the opportunity to build the largest and densest network, which serves as a vital tool for efficiency. The range of up to seven hours, powered by the GTF engines, opens up entirely new possibilities and allows us to match the right capacity to demand and giving our guests the flexibility to fly whenever they want through higher frequencies. We have democratized travel in Asia by opening routes that were never feasible before, and now we are doing it for the world,” said Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia
AirAsia’s A220 fleet will join more than 2,700 GTF-powered aircraft operated by more than 90 customers worldwide. The GTF fleet has achieved 50 million flight hours, carried 1.9 billion passengers and achieved fuel savings of 3 billion liters since entering service ten years ago. Pratt & Whitney has received more than 13,000 orders and commitments for GTF engines to date, reflecting strong market demand for its breakthrough benefits. As the most efficient engine for the single-aisle market, the GTF delivers a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and a 75% reduction in noise footprint compared to the previous generation of engines.
