China Ready Workshop launched at WTM Africa 2026 | News

China Ready Workshop, a sold-out, two-hour premium paid training session, was held on April 15 during WTM Africa 2026 in Cape Town, marking the first time the workshop has been held in South Africa. The program was a partnership between CBISN and WTM Africa.
The turnout reflected the breadth of the industry, with registered participants from hotels, DMCs, attractions, wineries, transport providers, MICE operators and luxury travel. Senior management from various tourism boards were also present.

WTM Africa is a platform that promotes growth and innovation in the African travel industry. The China Ready® Workshop aligns with this vision by enabling exhibitors, destinations and service providers to tap into the lucrative Chinese tourism market.
Carol Weaving, Managing Director of WTM Africa and RX Africa, delivered the welcome message to the China Ready workshop participants at the start of the event.
The workshop was delivered by Marcus Lee, CEO of China Travel Online, in a breathtaking, fast-paced presentation. The program is composed of three parts: essential knowledge; Marketing and digital promotion; and Strategies and Branding – and is designed to run consecutively at WTM Africa from 2026 to 2028. Delegates who missed Part 1 are welcome to participate in Part 2: Marketing and Digital Promotion at WTM Africa 2027.

China Ready Workshop 2026, Part One – Essential Knowledge covers China market updates, China outbound travel market 2026, African market outlook for Chinese, impact of Middle East disruption in Africa, top concern for Chinese tourists, demographics and much more. There was strong interaction and question and answer sessions with the audience throughout the workshop.
Since its inception in 2002, CBISN’s China Ready® has become the largest and most recognized program of its kind, spanning 55 countries across six continents. It provides assurance that destinations and service providers meet the high standards Chinese visitors expect, promoting trust, satisfaction and repeat business.
Participants earn six CPD credits per session, and those who attend all three components will receive a China Ready certificate.
