Lufthansa Group Airlines expands flight offering to numerous holiday destinations | News

The Lufthansa Group airlines are expanding their flight offering for the summer of 2026, specifically responding to short-term shifts and increasing demand for tourist and business air travel. This summer, Lufthansa therefore plans to offer two additional weekly flights from Frankfurt to Chennai, India, two additional weekly flights to Delhi, one additional weekly flight to Hyderabad and one additional weekly flight from Munich to Bangalore. Swiss has already added seven weekly flights to Delhi to its schedule.
In addition, Lufthansa plans to offer approximately 540 additional flights in Europe from its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich in the period between April and October 2026, to both high-demand tourist destinations in Southern Europe and selected destinations in the Far North. Among other things, capacity will be significantly expanded to the Iberian Peninsula, Greece and Italy.
There will be approximately 700 Austrian Airlines flights from Vienna, more than 100 SWISS flights from Zurich and approximately 170 Brussels Airlines flights from Brussels. For example, Lufthansa Group Airlines’ offering is expanding to approximately 1,600 additional departures from their hubs, spread over the summer of 2026.
The additional capacities are created by adapting the flight program for the Middle East, where free resources can be used efficiently. This measure enables Lufthansa and the other airlines of the Group to respond flexibly to the changing booking behavior of travelers, influenced by geopolitical developments.
With the expansion of the summer flight program, the Lufthansa Group airlines are creating a greater choice of travel connections and improving availability during the high season.
However, the geopolitical environment remains highly volatile and characterized by short-term changes and market fluctuations. In particular, sharp increases in ticket prices due to higher fuel costs could affect demand. However, currently the demand for travel remains high, even though ticket price increases have already been implemented.
Nevertheless, in parallel with the expansion of the flight offering, the Lufthansa Group airlines are currently developing and evaluating scenarios to quickly respond to changes in the market environment, for example by canceling unprofitable routes or early retirement of older aircraft.
