Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 arrives in Sydney Harbor during World Voyage 2026 | News

This image shows Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 arriving in Sydney Harbor during its round-the-world voyage in 2026.

The world’s only ocean liner sailed into harbor with the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge in the background, marking a key moment in her journey around the world.

As part of the celebration, acclaimed Australian writer Anna Funder unveiled A Letter from Australia to the World. What started as a simple call to write has evolved into a modern pen-pal exchange that transcends oceans, cultures and time zones. Each of the more than 500 letters submitted will now travel aboard Queen Mary 2 as she sails through Asia, Africa and Europe, where guests are invited to read and respond to the voices of Australia she carries with her.

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “For 185 years, Cunard ships have carried more than just passengers; they have been the bearers of stories, ideas and human connections. As the world’s only ocean liner, Queen Mary 2 represents a style of travel that values depth over speed and experience over urgency.

“We are deeply encouraged by the response from Australians who chose to put pen to paper and share a part of themselves with someone they may never meet. In doing so, they have become part of a living tradition that stretches across oceans and generations.”

Queen Mary 2 is currently sailing her 108-night round-the-world voyage from Southampton. Following her visit to Sydney, the flagship will continue her journey through the Asia-Pacific region before returning to Britain later this spring.

Queen Mary 2 will return to Southampton at the end of her circumnavigation in April 2026.
