Shailene Woodley defends sharing Melania Trump’s letter after Donald’s assassination attempt
Shailene Woodley‘ defends herself against the backlash she received for sharing Melania Trump‘s statement after the attempted murder of Donald Trump …and admits she’s baffled by how people can wish death on someone, no matter how controversial they are.
The actress told Bustle that she shared the first page of Melania’s letter on social media in July because she thought it was a nice reminder that despite Trump’s political drama, he is still human, with children and grandchildren — and that wishes for his death are not. pitying.
She explained: “I found myself in circles of people I deeply respect – friends, colleagues, progressive, highly intelligent thinkers, shakers and movers and many of them said, ‘He missed! Damn murderer missed! Maybe it is Like this.’ was a set-up. Maybe it was a conspiracy.”
Shailene recalled… “I said, ‘Have we forgotten that two lives were taken?’ Two people have died. That’s sad. That’s terrible. I couldn’t understand how people talked about something with so much passion for death.”
The “Big Little Lies” star explained that she didn’t share the second page of the former First Lady’s statement because it was more political. She casually added that she had completely forgotten about the post because she has “a life” and doesn’t. “live for what social media says.”
It wasn’t until a friend texted her asking if she was okay that Shailene Googled herself and realized her message wasn’t resonating with people. She says it really annoyed her that people were angry just because she was grateful that Melania’s husband survived.
Shailene is loud and proud Bernie Sanders support, but she is keeping her political cards close to her chest this election. That said, she acknowledges that her views are quite clear from all her activist work.
