“It’s 100 percent something that we think about, that we talk about and that we would like to do. But it’s also something that I think the industry is afraid to pull the trigger on when you see these characters – who are so memorable to so many,” he shared. Us. “If you put Riggins and Saracen together on another show, people will still just call them Riggins and Saracen and think of them as Friday Night Lights characters. They’ll say, ‘This is weird and out of place.’ Even though we’re actors and these guys are so versatile and these women are so incredibly varied in their talents.

However, Porter doesn’t rule it out.

“A few of us have worked together several times and it’s something we all hope we can do again. For me it would be incredibly special because when I was on Friday Night Lights I didn’t work with the main cast as much as you might think,” he recalls. “People say, ‘Oh, Jason Street, he was one of the leads. He was with those guys all the time.’ No, I wasn’t. I had to wait until episode 20 of season 1 before I could get back on the football field.”

He added, “I was kind of in my own world, so if I get to work with them again, this could really be the first time I actually get to work with them. So any time I can beat the pavement to make that happen, I will and I hope it does.”

For now, Porter is filming season 4 of Ginny and Georgia, on which he plays Paul.

“Anyone who likes a small-town TV show with a little bit of danger in it, hopefully we can get the next season out to you much sooner than our first three,” he shared. Us. “I know this is a goal of everyone on board. We’ve been through some tough times with COVID and the strikes, but we’re on the right track now. We’re so excited to show everyone out there what we’ve got cooking in Wellsbury.”

Porter also entered – and won – The Weakest Link of Celebrities earlier this month, in honor of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. (Huntington’s disease causes nerve cells in the brain to decay over time and affects a person’s movements, thinking skills and mental health, according to Mayo Clinic.)

“This was a win-win situation. I’m a competitor, I love games and I’ve seen the weakest link,” Porter said. Us. “When they tell you you can play for a charity of your choice, it becomes even more meaningful. The cause I’ve chosen is the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, which helps families battling Huntington’s disease and helps find a cure for this terrible disease. I’ve helped raise millions of dollars for research and to support families battling it. The reason it’s so personal to me is, is my mother-in-law and my wife [Kelsey Mayfield] are both positive for Huntington’s disease.”

Porter has spent years raising awareness and money for a cure.

“My mother-in-law is symptomatic and my wife is what they call gene positive, which means the disease will be part of our future unless we find a cure for it. So now – more than ever – after some announcements a few weeks ago, we have had some very, very promising and hopeful successes in a number of trials to limit the Huntington’s gene,” he added. “It’s just more important than ever to raise awareness and raise money. When you go to a show like this, you’re not guaranteed to win, but hopefully you do raise awareness of what Huntington’s actually is. It was something that was very meaningful to me and to go and compete made it even more fun.”
