Netflix film completes love story

Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring’s love story will reach its conclusion — at least, on Netflix — in the first trailer for “Heartstopper Forever,” the feature film that will wrap up the beloved “Heartstopper” storyline after three seasons on the streamer. Streaming begins on July 17.

Creator and executive producer Alice Oseman, who adapted “Heartstopper” from her series of best-selling graphic novels, is writing the screenplay, with Wash Westmoreland (“Still Alice”) directing. Stars Kit Connor (Nick) and Joe Locke (Charlie) return as executive producers. Also expected to return are co-stars William Gao (Tao), Yasmin Finney (Elle), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen) and Leila Khan (Sahar).

Since its debut in April 2022, “Heartstopper” has become a cultural touchstone, portraying the budding romance between Charlie and Nick — but also between Tao and Elle, Tara and Darcy, and Imogen and Sahar — with a candid tenderness that has won over a legion of fiercely loyal fans. The show has also made Connor and Locke bona fide stars: the former starred on Broadway in “Romeo + Juliet” with Rachel Zegler and in the visceral Iraq War film “Warfare,” while the latter starred opposite Kathryn Hahn in Marvel’s “Agatha All Along” on Disney+.

The third season of “Heartstopper,” which debuted in 2024, ends with Nick and Charlie having sex for the first time, as Charlie finds new confidence after struggling with his mental health, while Nick considers which college he wants to attend. What Nick’s impending graduation could mean for their relationship – not to mention Nick and Charlie’s group of friends – remains unanswered; Since Oseman’s final installment of her graphic novels ‘Heartstopper’ has not yet been published, unlike previous seasons, fans do not know how Nick and Charlie’s love story will end on the show.
