Laura Dahlmeier – A former biathlete who participated in two Olympic Games- died … According to her management team.
Dahlmeier climbed a mountain in Pakistan when she was hit and killed by falling rocks on Monday. Her climbing partner, Marina Evasent an emergency signal to the authorities, but low visibility and bad weather made it difficult for rescuers to reach the remote area.
When they finally arrived on Tuesday morning, it was too late to help Dahlmeier … whose management team CNN said that she specifically asked that no one was risking their lives to restore her body in the case of an accident.
Her team has released a statement … “The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the rescue team, especially the local mountain climbers. They did everything possible to facilitate the rescue and to reach the victim of the accident.”
Dahlmeier participated in Germany in the 2014 and 2018 Olympic Games. She won two gold medals and a bronze medal in South Korea in ’18.
She won several Golds in the World City World Championship in the course of the years before she retired in 2019.
The German Olympic Sports Confederation said in a Dahlmeier statement “leaves a legacy that goes much further than medals: her dedication to sport, her passion for nature and her dedication to society make her an inspiring personality. Her story continues to exist. As a daughter, sister, friend, Olympian and Biathlon.”
Dahlmeier was 31.
