Australian radio host Carrie Bickmore shared the gruesome details after accidentally walking into the corner of a wall in her home.
The 45-year-old said the incident happened in the middle of the night when she got up to get water, explaining that she had “misjudged” the wall and hit it with force.
“I ran into it with such force that when I fell, I grabbed a lamp that was on the bedside table,” she said on her radio show. Carrie and Tommy, per People.
The impact caused an immediate and alarming injury.
“I felt it squirt out, I caught it with my hand and it dripped all over my eye,” she added.
Bickmore later shared the image images of the wound on Instagram, including a deep gash on the side of her head and photos of herself covered in bandages.
“Walked over the break into the corner of the wall,” she wrote. ‘It looked like a crime scene. Blood spouted from my head.’
Paramedics treated her at the scene, bandaged the injury and advised her to glue it closed the next day.
Despite the severity, Bickmore went ahead with her planned family trip to Sri Lanka shortly after the incident.
During her vacation the situation only worsened.
Bickmore revealed that the injury did not heal properly and was exacerbated by an unfortunate accident mid-journey.
“It’s healing terribly. And it hurts. Also a lady randomly dropped her carry-on on my head. God it hurt,” she added on Instagram.
The host also explained the limitations she faced while traveling, noting that she was unable to properly care for the wound.
“Either it opened up during my trip because I couldn’t wash my hair, swim, go in the water or anything for 10 days,” she said.
After returning home, Bickmore sought further medical attention and received disturbing news.
Doctors told her that the injury was much more serious than initially thought, and that the damage extended beyond the surface.
“It was so deep that the glue did absolutely nothing,” she said.
She was told that a plastic surgeon would have to reopen the wound, remove the glue and repair the nerve, along with several layers of skin.
“Now it needs to be properly repaired by a plastic surgeon,” she added.
Despite the ordeal, Bickmore kept her sense of humor and joked, “Scars are hot, huh?” Face for the radio.’

“Rest and heal well. That’s a lot,” one follower wrote.
