‘The Studio’ Cancels Apple TV Panel After Catherine O’Hara’s Death

“The Studio” has canceled its panel at Apple TV’s upcoming press day after star Catherine O’Hara passed away on Friday.

“The Studio” was just one of several panelists at Apple TV’s press day, scheduled for Tuesday at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles. The streamer announced the cancellation on Friday shortly after O’Hara’s death. According to the program, O’Hara did not plan to attend the panel alongside her scheduled co-stars Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Chase Sui Wonders.

“We are all heartbroken by the loss of Catherine O’Hara,” Apple and Lionsgate said in a joint statement on Friday. “An undeniable legend, icon and incomparable talent, Catherine elevated every project she was a part of, including the unique genius she brought to her role in ‘The Studio’, and every transcendent performance she gave us. Her artistic achievements will forever bring humor, light and love to generations to come, and her genius and generosity of spirit touched everyone around her. We will forever hold her in our hearts and extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to her husband Bo and children, Matthew and Lucas.”

O’Hara’s manager announced Friday that the “Home Alone” star had died at her home in Los Angeles after a short illness. She was 71.

O’Hara’s prolific comedy career began with the Canadian sketch comedy show “Second City Television” and ended with a late-career renaissance that included “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “The Studio.” Following her death, there was an outpouring of memories and tributes from the Hollywood community.

“I really don’t know what to say… When I first met her, I told O’Hara that I thought she was the funniest person I had ever seen on screen. ‘Home Alone’ was the movie that made me want to make movies,” Rogen, co-creator and star of “The Studio,” wrote on Instagram. “It was a real honor to work with her. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence on it. This is just devastating. We are all lucky to have lived in a world with her in it.”
