Texas Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week | News

Travel Texas is proud to participate in a nationwide celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW). This year’s celebration takes on special significance as the nation prepares to host historic events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, America 250 and the Route 66 Centennial, which put Texas communities on the world stage. In recognition of the travel industry’s critical contributions to the state’s economy, Governor Greg Abbott has declared May 3 – 9, 2026 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week.

Since its founding in 1983, NTTW has demonstrated how travel fosters connection and lays the foundation for the quintessential American experience. This year’s theme, ‘Postmarked: Essential’, highlights that travel is a fundamental pillar of growth in every corner of the country and leaves an indelible mark on our local economies and culture. The industry’s economic contributions are undeniable.

Texas continues to see strong travel demand, with 52 million travelers from across the country and around the world in 2025, in addition to 69 million Texans exploring destinations within the state on overnight trips.

Travel and tourism in Texas generates a total of $201.8 billion in economic impact, supports 1.3 million jobs and generates $80.8 billion in revenue for Texans.

Additionally, revenue generated from travel contributes $9.2 billion in state and local taxes, funding essential public services and supporting jobs for teachers, first responders and infrastructure in communities across the state.

In celebration of this year’s celebration, destinations across Texas will celebrate the tourism industry’s impact on their local communities. The Kerrville Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Museum of Western Art will host a National Travel & Tourism Week Celebration Lunch on Friday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Dallas’ Can-Do Spirit Day will bring together members of the hospitality industry, civic leaders and community partners on May 7 for a beautification project at Fair Park ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.
