Sherrone Moore’s accuser lived in the same complex as UM football players
The apartment complex that housed the former University of Michigan football coach Sherron Moore reportedly broke into after his dismissal the home of some of his players.
“Several players” lived in the same complex as the football staff member with whom Moore, 39, was found to have an “inappropriate relationship,” according to a story posted by The Athletics on Monday, December 22.
“One program source recalled seeing Moore there late at night and that Moore’s SUV was parked at the complex several times late at night,” The Athletics reported. “Moore and the staffer were often seen together in public after he became head coach.”
Moore and the staff member had a long-standing relationship, which officially came to light after the woman cooperated with a university investigation that led to Moore’s dismissal on December 10.
Shortly after Moore was fired, he allegedly barged into the staff member’s apartment and threatened to hurt her and himself with knives he took from one of her kitchen drawers.
The relationship with Moore and the staffer had been a topic of discussion at the university for more than a year, according to one source The Athletics that the coach attending a 2024 University of Michigan lacrosse game with the woman “created the appearance of impropriety.”
“Some sources close to the program said they did not give much credence to the rumors, while others said the relationship was openly discussed by coaches and players,” the report said.
When asked about the allegations, a source said Moore “denied the relationship” and “became angry” when a member of the Michigan football staff “warned him.”
During the second half of Michigan’s most recent football season, the university received “an anonymous tip that Moore was dating a female football staffer.” The Athletics reported.
The school was unable to find evidence of the relationship on its own, but retained law firm Jenner & Block to conduct an outside investigation into the allegations.
According to a University of Michigan insider John U. Baconthe staff member brought “receipts” to officials on December 10, detailing her relationship with Moore.
Moore was fired in a one-on-one meeting with Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel that afternoon.
Hours later, Moore was arrested after allegedly breaking into the woman’s apartment as she attempted to leave town.
From court documents obtained by the Detroit Free PressMoore is said to have had a “long history of domestic violence” against the staff member.
“[The staff member] reported that she was carrying her belongings downstairs to leave, and while she was in her apartment, she heard footsteps outside,” the documents said.[She] indicated she ran to the door to lock it, but before she could, Mr. Moore swung the door open and stormed into her apartment with tears in his eyes.
The documents continued: “[The staff member] indicated she was about five feet from the door when he entered. She said she started to back up as he approached her. [She] said Moore took two knives from her drawer and pointed them at her: “You ruined my life. You ruined my life. ”
The University of Michigan explained why the football staffer who had an “inappropriate relationship” with head coach Sherrone Moore wasn’t also fired. Moore has admitted to having a relationship with the woman, but denied any physical violence or threats towards her.
He was charged with one count of third-degree residential burglary, one count of stalking in connection with a domestic relationship and one count of burglary on Dec. 12.
Moore was released from jail on $25,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS tracking device and cut off all contact with the staff member.
The former coach must appear in court again on January 22.
