Season 3 of ‘The Pitt’ probably won’t take place during a holiday

HBO Max announced Wednesday that the award-winning “The Pitt” has been picked up for a third season — and star Noah Wyle says the team is already mapping out ideas.
While season 2 – which premiered on Thursday – is set on the 4th of Julye weekend, Wyle doesn’t think there will be a holiday next season.
“Probably not,” he told me on the season 2 red carpet at the DGA Theater Complex in LA on Wednesday. “Although we may not push it that far into the future this time – 10 months was a long jump. I don’t think we’ll need to make that big of a leap next time.”
Earlier on the carpet, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill joked that next season will take place on Halloween – at least I thought he was joking.
“All he cares about is — ask a Canadian a question and they answer. It’s incredible,” Wyle said with a smile in response to Gemmill’s Halloween comment. “He has a Krampus costume he wants to wear on set.”
“The Pitt” is set in a Pittsburgh emergency room over 15 episodes. So far, each season has taken place over the course of one shift, with each episode covering an hour of that shift.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, revealed to the audience during the season 2 premiere that the show had been renewed for a third season.
“The Pitt” heads into the Golden Globes with two nominations for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama for Wyle. “I don’t even know how to describe it other than I didn’t think lightning would strike twice like that in my life, 30 years apart,” Wyle said of the show’s success. “To be invited back to all these wonderful events with a little bit of wisdom and perspective to really understand how special and rare it is is like the greatest gift.”
In addition to Wyle, the season 2 cast includes Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Sepideh Moafi.
Gemmill created “The Pitt” and produces the series alongside John Wells, Wyle, JWP’s Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.
