Savannah Guthrie’s kidnapping games she played as a child revealed

Megyn Kelly rewatched the audio from Savannah’s 2024 book, in which she described a child kidnapping game her older cousin designed.

The game involved secrecy, an early morning escape, and a fake call home to tell her mother that “Cousin Terry kidnapped me.”

“About once a year in the summer, cousin Terry orchestrated a kidnapping of my sister and me,” Savannah wrote. ‘It went like this. The cousins came to visit our house in Tucson for a few days. And then, on the morning they were supposed to leave, Terry woke us up early and lulled us into the pre-dawn darkness as we escaped.”

“We all piled into her rickety station wagon and headed north, the sky streaking bright oranges and pinks as the sun rose over the featureless desert landscape. Somewhere between Phoenix and Tucson, Terry made a pit stop and had Annie and I call home from a pay phone. “Mom, cousin Terry kidnapped us to take us to her house.” My mother pretended to be shocked, protested how much she would miss us, and then assured us that she would come pick us up in a few days.’
