Read the damning 248-word email that ended Scott Pelley’s CBS career

Bilton, just days into his new job, broke the news via an email he obtained Status.
It read: “I came into this job excited to work with and benefit from the wisdom and experience of the ’60 Minutes’ veterans, with you among them.
“For that reason, one of the first things I did in my new role was invite you over to talk and invite you to dinner. It is a deep disappointment that you rejected that overture and opted for an ambush instead.”
Bilton continued: “Yesterday you hijacked my first meeting with staff to discredit me, my qualifications and my intentions with remarkable rudeness and contempt.
“I welcome a diversity of views and respectful debate within the team, but this was nothing of the sort.
“Yesterday’s performative display of hostility, which was staged in front of the staff rather than in a civilized private conversation, demonstrated that you have no interest in contributing to the future success of the show, or in approaching my new term in office with a spirit open to collaboration and progress.
