Another passage in the book reads: “‘Don’t bother fighting William,'” a senior palace official (Harry) advised.

“Frustrated, he discovered that his father ignored both his complaints and the danger signals. Until he met Meghan, Harry accepted his fate.”

Princes William and Harry, once considered close, are now long estranged and live thousands of miles apart.

Their relationship is said to have deteriorated further after the release of the Netflix series Harry & Meghan in 2022 and the publication of Save the following year.

The brothers were last reported to be in the same room at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Fellowes, in 2024, where they did not sit or speak together.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan strongly rejected Bower’s claims, accusing the author of going beyond legitimate criticism.

They said: “Mr Bower’s comments have long crossed the line from criticism to fixation. This is someone who has publicly stated: ‘The monarchy in fact depends on actually eradicating the Sussexes from our state of life’ – language that speaks for itself.”
