MANDARIN ORIENTAL THE LANDMARK, HONG KONG REVEALS ITS NEXT CHAPTER | News

Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong will reopen on June 1, 2026, marking the long-awaited return of one of the city’s most beloved hotels.
Located in the heart of Central in the prestigious LANDMARK complex, currently being reimagined as part of Tomorrow’s CENTRAL, the hotel returns with a reimagined arrival experience, updated rooms and suites and expanded culinary and wellness offerings, marking a new era for this celebrated Asian property.
A new arrival experience: the Mansion Foyer

The journey begins at a new entrance on Queen’s Road Central, next to LANDMARK, creating a considered transition from the energy of the city to the tranquility within.
Inside, the arrival sequence – designed by Hong Kong interior architect Joyce Wang, founder and director of Joyce Wang Studio – is based on the grand residences of Hong Kong’s past, carefully reinterpreted for today.
Warm terracotta tones and deep greens reflect the facades and gardens of historic houses such as Yu Yuen in the New Territories and Tai Fu Tai, with its distinctive blend of Qing Dynasty and Western influences.
A curved stone staircase gently leads guests upstairs, transitioning from the mansion-like foyer to an intimate lobby lounge above. Alcoves carved along the ascent display commissioned works of art on sculptural plinths. Inspired by the cityscape, these works reflect the skyline and energy of Hong Kong and are reflected in carpet designs, tapestries and gilded glass mirrors in elevators and corridors.
Wang notes, “For this latest renovation, we were inspired by our hotel’s identity as a pied-à-terre where our guests can feel the heartbeat of Hong Kong. Curated pieces are windows into expressions of our city through the lenses of both local and international, and emerging and established artists. As you travel through the hotel, we hope these legendary perspectives fill you with curiosity and contemplation, ready to spark conversations.”
Renovated living, rooms and suites in residential style
The hotel’s 109 rooms and suites have been completely renovated by Wang, continuing the residential story of the public areas.
The L450 rooms start at 42 square meters and are conceived as spacious urban sanctuaries, with lighter wooden floors, patinated walls, Fromental silk wall coverings and bespoke carpets inspired by historic brickwork patterns found throughout the city.
King-size beds or twin beds, with sculpted quilted leather headboards, are dressed in 530-thread count Quivera linen, while L600 rooms and above retain the signature curved, glass-walled bathrooms, centered on the iconic two-metre circular bath.
Measuring 167 square meters, the Entertainment Suite is a sophisticated residence, equally suitable for intimate gatherings. It features a state-of-the-art entertainment wall, a Gaggenau kitchen, private dining for eight people and a master bedroom equipped with the FreshBed climate-controlled sleep system.

Seven Michelin stars and a Green Star, united under one roof
Over the course of twenty years, Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong has grown into one of Asia’s premier gastronomic destinations under the leadership of Culinary and Food & Beverage Director Richard Ekkebus. That culinary vision continues to set the pace.
Amber, the flagship restaurant, has three Michelin stars and a Green Michelin star. Chef Richard Ekkebus’ cuisine is based on classic French technique, enriched by his long-standing presence in Hong Kong, resulting in layered, precise dishes, rooted in sustainability and defined by a distinctly Asian sensibility. The experience is further enhanced with the introduction of The Cellar Immersion, an immersive food and wine journey in Amber’s dramatic cellar. This new signature destination goes beyond the usual pairings to offer a curated, sensory exploration of terroir, craftsmanship and vintages.
On the same floor as Amber are the three-Michelin-starred Sushi Shikon, the one-Michelin-starred Kappo Rin and the modern French bistro SOMM. The remarkable culinary offer is completed by the new champagne bar BLANC DE NOIRS, dedicated to premium cuvées.
Also new is COMMUNE, an artisan coffee workshop conceived as a lively social center in the heart of the lobby. Designed as both a welcoming first point of contact for arriving guests and a destination in itself, it invites the city’s residents and visitors to pause, connect and enjoy expertly crafted coffee in an atmosphere of understated elegance.
Chef Ekkebus says: “After 21 years of being part of this remarkable journey, the reopening of Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong feels like an extraordinary new chapter. This new era celebrates an exceptional collection of restaurants and bars, which together boast seven MICHELIN Stars and one Green MICHELIN Star, and we are proud to continue shaping its story through creativity, craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.”
